Job Summary

As a Security Engineering – Senior Engineer, you are an expert in the Information, Engineering and Cyber Security domains, applying your extensive knowledge in security technologies, cloud and corporate networks to shape the security controls required within solution designs (both people, process and technical) and identify, communicate and help treat corresponding security risks.

Through your strong knowledge of existing and emerging technology, you are able deliver a superior security and network experience for our consumers. You do this by drawing on your deep levels of cyber security and engineering knowledge and experience to provide specialist analysis, design, development and deployment in Network and IT specific technology domains.

You play a pivotal role in shaping our technology strategy and protecting Telstra’s assets, acting as a trusted adviser to our people, teams, cyber, engineering and DevOps leaders to build our cyber capability.

AI Senior Security Capability Engineer

Purpose of the Role

Support the delivery and continuous improvement of AI Security capabilities across the organisation, including tooling, integrations, governance, monitoring, and operational insights that enable secure AI adoption.

Key Responsibilities

AI Security Capability Engineering

  • Assess, configure, integrate, and optimise security tools to support AI Security use cases.

  • Identify capability gaps and improve visibility, governance, detection, and response outcomes.

  • Troubleshoot tooling, workflow, integration, and data issues to improve operational effectiveness.

Technology Evaluation & Capability Assessment

  • Evaluate emerging AI Security technologies and support proof-of-concept or pilot activities.

  • Assess effectiveness, coverage, integration effort, risk reduction, and business value.

  • Provide evidence-based recommendations on adoption, uplift, rationalisation, and investment priorities.

Security Tool Optimisation & Insights

  • Analyse security telemetry, operational data, and platform metrics to identify trends, risks, gaps, and improvement opportunities.

  • Develop dashboards, reporting, and insights that demonstrate capability performance and business value.

  • Recommend practical improvements that increase value from existing security investments.

Capability Delivery & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Work with Security Engineering, Cyber Operations, Architecture, Risk, Product, and Technology teams to deliver AI Security outcomes.

  • Translate business and security requirements into practical capability enhancements.

  • Engage stakeholders, manage competing priorities, and drive adoption of security capabilities.

Learning, Enablement & Collaboration

  • Collaborate with engineers, analysts, architects, product, governance, and architecture teams to support capability uplift.

  • Contribute to documentation, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement.

  • Continuously build expertise in AI Security, automation, cloud security, and emerging technologies.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Experience in Security Engineering, Security Operations, Security Architecture, Detection Engineering, Security Product Management, or technology capability assessment.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, stakeholder engagement, and communication skills.

  • Experience analysing security telemetry, operational metrics, logs, alerts, or platform data.

  • Ability to assess technologies and make evidence-based recommendations.

  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP and cyber security domains such as cloud, application, identity, detection and response, or AI Security.

  • Familiarity with automation, APIs, scripting, and security tooling integrations.

This role is best suited to candidates who enjoy:

  • Evaluating security technologies and solving security problems using platforms, data, and automation.

  • Running proofs of concept, assessing capability effectiveness, and translating requirements into practical outcomes.

  • Influencing stakeholders and driving adoption of AI Security capabilities.

This role is not primarily focused on developing AI agents, building standalone AI products, or conducting AI research. It is best suited to candidates with security engineering, operations, architecture, detection engineering, product management, or technology assessment backgrounds.
