About the Role

As a Health Analyst, you will turn health service data into meaningful insights that support better decisions across Health New Zealand. Working with teams including Hospital & Specialist Services and Commissioning, you'll explore data, identify trends and patterns, develop reports and dashboards, and provide clear, evidence-based analysis to a range of audiences. Your work will also support responses to Parliamentary Questions, OIA requests, media enquiries and other high-priority information requests.

This is an opportunity to work on varied and nationally significant analytical projects, using data from national collections, Rapid datasets and district and regional sources. You'll combine analytical expertise with strong stakeholder engagement, using tools such as Power BI, Qlik, SQL and Excel to make complex information accessible and actionable. You'll also have the opportunity to responsibly use approved AI-enabled tools and emerging technologies to improve analytical efficiency and reporting, while contributing to better data quality, processes and capability across the Health Analytics community.

About the Team and Location

You'll join the Health Analytics, Planning, Funding and Outcomes team, working alongside analysts and stakeholders across Health New Zealand and the wider health sector.

This is a New Zealand-wide role, providing the opportunity to work with colleagues and stakeholders across Aotearoa. You'll build strong relationships across areas including Hospital & Specialist Services, Commissioning, Public Health, Pacific Health, Finance, Data and Digital, and other business units.

About you

You'll be an experienced analyst with a relevant tertiary qualification and around 3-5 years' experience in a similar role, ideally within a large public or private sector organisation. You'll have strong analytical fundamentals and experience transforming complex or disparate datasets into clear insights, reports and visualisations.

You'll be confident working with stakeholders to understand their needs, translating business requirements into effective analytical solutions, and communicating findings to different audiences. You'll also bring curiosity about emerging technologies, including AI-enabled analytics, together with sound judgement and a commitment to responsible use.

You will bring:

• Strong analytical skills and the ability to turn data into meaningful, actionable insights.
• Experience with data visualisation, dashboards and BI tools such as Power BI or Qlik.
• Strong technical capability in tools such as Snowflake and SQL, with experience manipulating and integrating datasets.
• Excellent communication skills and the confidence to present complex information clearly to varied audiences.
• Experience gathering requirements and working collaboratively with stakeholders to deliver customer-focused reporting.
• Curiosity, adaptability and a commitment to continuous improvement, including embracing emerging technologies and AI.
• A strong understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, equity and culturally responsive practice.
• The judgement, professionalism and integrity to work with sensitive information and deliver high-quality, trusted analysis and insights.
