Assistant Director Community and Family Support Service

The Assistant Director of Community and Family Support Services with the support of the Director of Community and Family Support Services is responsible for managing and enhancing Vocational Community Habilitation Respite and Family Reimbursement programming for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities receiving services through People’s Arc of Suffolk. This role is essential in ensuring high-quality service delivery, staff supervision, and the overall effectiveness of programs that promote person centered, meaningful leisure skills, independence skill building and well-being for people served and their families.

  • Works closely with the Director of Community and Family Support Services in the development, implementation, and evaluation of Vocational, Community Habilitation, Respite and Family Reimbursement programming that meet the person-centered needs of the people receiving services through People’s Arc and their families.
  • Identifies new opportunities for service enhancement and programmatic growth.
  • Supports (or handles, as needed) personnel-related issues/systems to include timesheets, PTO, time management, performance evaluation, accountability, compliance, training, and retention. Conduct supervisions and performance evaluations with staff, offer ongoing professional development and growth opportunities to staff.
  • Advocates for the needs of people supported within People’s Arc, outside human services providers and the broader community.
  • Collaborates with community organizations, service providers, and stakeholders to enhance the network of support available to people served and their families.

Role Requirements:

  • High school Diploma or GED
  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Human Services, or a related field preferred
  • 3+ years supervisory experience in an OPWDD setting
  • 5+ years of experience in providing HCBS waiver services
  • Valid NYSDL
