Assistant Manager, Commercial and Operation (LNG) Group

Job Description

We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented individual to support the commercial activities of our LNG Carrier Business team. The role includes assisting in the management of LNG carrier projects—covering newbuilding deliveries, ongoing operations, contract handling, and coordination with internal and external stakeholders. The candidate will also support financial aspects such as OPEX monitoring and cash flow tracking. An understanding of the LNG shipping industry and its commercial practices will be advantage.

Commercial Management of LNG Carrier Projects

・Manage ongoing commercial operations for existing LNG projects.

・Manage all commercial aspects of LNG carrier newbuilding projects, including pre-delivery and post-delivery phases.

Contract & Financial Oversight

・Provide commercial support and review key contractual agreements including time charterparties and shipbuilding contracts.

・Ensure robust contract governance and compliance with contractual obligations.

・Monitor and control operating expenses (OPEX); prepare variance analysis and financial performance reports.

・Manage project-level financials, including cash flow planning and cash waterfall management to ensure timely allocation of revenues and payments in accordance with financial structures.

・Handle and resolve commercial disputes to safeguard owners’ interests.

Stakeholder & Customer Relationship Management

・Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with key stakeholders including LNG charterers, sellers, and buyers.

・Organize and lead regular commercial and operational meetings with charterers and other stakeholders.

・Identify and engage with potential partners to develop mutually beneficial commercial relationships.

・Collaborate with management and technical personnel across K Line group companies globally to achieve the objectives.

Business Development & Market Analysis

・Support marketing initiatives for K Line’s LNG tonnage as needed.

・Conduct market research to track industry trends, competitive landscape, and emerging opportunities in the LNG shipping sector.

・Contribute to the identification and development of new business opportunities aligned with company strategy.

Job Requirement

・Minimum five years of experience in LNG carriers or similar large-scale (>US$200 million) project management. Ship operationexperience is an advantage.

・Proven experience in participating in and organizing procurement tenders, preferably with involvement in projects related to LNG carriers.

・Experience in executing key project contracts, such as time charter parties and ship building contracts.

・Experience in executing key finance contracts, such as loan agreements and lease agreements of equivalent to US$150million or more.

・Developing new projects, preferably related to LNG carriers. Strong cash-flow modelling skills are an advantage.

・Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office and Microsoft Project or similar.

・Extensive knowledge of industry publications and regulations.

・A bachelor's or higher degree in business, legal, economics, accounting, finance, international or international development studies.

・Prior working experience in shipping company or ship management company is an advantage.

・Willingness to travel abroad for meetings, or business development activities.

・This role will have to communicate and liaise with Japanese counterparts (such as Global Headquarters in Japan). Proficiency in written and spoken Japanese is preferred.

・Perform other ad-hoc assignments as required by the department.
