AWS Cloud Disaster Recovery Architect
Summary
Lead the planning, design, and implementation of AWS Disaster Recovery solutions for a 64-server enterprise environment running Oracle, PostgreSQL, and SQL Server. Day-to-day work centers on AWS infrastructure (DRS, Backup, VPC, Transit Gateway), Terraform/CloudFormation, database replication, and RTO/RPO alignment with stakeholders.
We are seeking an experienced AWS Cloud Architect to lead the planning, design, and implementation of a comprehensive Disaster Recovery (DR) solution in AWS. The environment includes 64 servers and multiple database platforms, including Oracle, PostgreSQL, and Microsoft SQL Server.
The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in AWS infrastructure, disaster recovery strategies, database replication, and enterprise-scale cloud architecture, while working closely with customer technical teams to define recovery requirements and operational procedures.
- Design and implement a Disaster Recovery architecture in AWS for a complex environment consisting of 64 servers and multiple database platforms (Oracle, PostgreSQL, and Microsoft SQL Server).
- Define appropriate replication, backup, and recovery strategies for each workload.
- Collaborate with customer technical teams to establish Recovery Time Objectives (RTO) and Recovery Point Objectives (RPO) aligned with business requirements.
- Develop and maintain detailed failover and failback runbooks and operational procedures.
- Configure and manage key AWS services, including:
- AWS Elastic Disaster Recovery (DRS)
- AWS Backup
- AWS Site-to-Site VPN and Direct Connect
- Amazon Route 53
- AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM)
- Amazon VPC Peering
- AWS Transit Gateway
- Plan, execute, and document Disaster Recovery testing and simulation exercises.
- Ensure security and compliance requirements are met through encryption, least-privilege access controls, and auditing with AWS CloudTrail.
- Work directly with customer stakeholders during the design, implementation, and operational readiness phases of the project.
- Minimum 5 years of experience as an AWS Cloud Consultant, Solutions Architect, or Cloud Architect.
- Proven experience designing and implementing Disaster Recovery solutions in complex, multi-workload environments.
- Strong knowledge of Oracle, PostgreSQL, and Microsoft SQL Server replication and recovery methodologies.
- Hands-on experience with AWS Elastic Disaster Recovery (DRS) or similar solutions such as CloudEndure or Datto.
- Advanced knowledge of AWS networking services, including VPC, Transit Gateway, Direct Connect, and VPN architectures.
- Experience implementing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform and/or AWS CloudFormation.
- Experience with AWS Backup, snapshot management, and AMI lifecycle strategies.
- Strong technical documentation skills, with the ability to create clear, structured, and professional architecture and operational documentation.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, including direct customer interaction.
- AWS Specialty Certifications (Security, Advanced Networking, or Database).
- Experience with Oracle Data Guard or Active Data Guard.
- Hands-on experience with Amazon RDS for PostgreSQL and SQL Server, as well as Amazon RDS Custom for Oracle.
- Familiarity with the AWS Well-Architected Framework.
- Experience implementing multi-region Disaster Recovery architectures, including Active-Active and Pilot Light strategies.
- Knowledge of failover automation using AWS Lambda, Amazon EventBridge, and AWS Step Functions.
- Experience delivering large-scale cloud transformation or disaster recovery projects for enterprise customers in Latin America.
- Experience with Microsoft SQL Server Always On Availability Groups in AWS environments.
