Summary
Commercial Project Manager leading commercial and financial management of utility-scale renewable energy projects across the project lifecycle. Oversees contract administration (EPC, TSA, FIDIC), cost control, claims management, risk mitigation, and stakeholder engagement using tools such as Oracle, SAP, and Primavera.
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Commercial Project Manager to lead the commercial and financial management of utility-scale renewable energy projects throughout the project lifecycle.
Working closely with Project Management, Engineering, Supply Chain, Finance, Legal, and other internal stakeholders, the successful candidate will oversee project commercial performance, contract administration, risk management, and financial governance while supporting successful project delivery.
This role serves as a key commercial interface between customers, subcontractors, suppliers, and project stakeholders during project execution and handover.
Key Responsibilities
Commercial Project Management
Manage the commercial and financial performance of assigned renewable energy projects.
Support project handover from the Sales team to Project Execution teams, ensuring contractual obligations are clearly understood and implemented.
Develop and maintain project commercial management plans, including financial monitoring, contract compliance, and risk management activities.
Monitor project financial performance, including revenue recognition, cost forecasting, margins, profitability, and cash flow.
Ensure timely achievement of project commercial milestones and contractual deliverables.
Contract Management
Administer and interpret project contracts, including EPC contracts, Turbine Supply Agreements (TSA), Service Agreements, and related commercial agreements.
Monitor compliance with contractual rights, obligations, notice requirements, and key deliverables.
Identify and manage contractual risks throughout the project lifecycle.
Support negotiations relating to contract amendments, variations, claims, and settlements.
Work closely with internal Legal teams on dispute avoidance and contract resolution matters.
Financial Management & Cost Control
Prepare and maintain project financial forecasts and commercial reports.
Monitor project budgets, cost commitments, expenditure, and contingency utilisation.
Analyse project financial performance and identify opportunities to improve project outcomes.
Manage invoicing activities, payment milestones, collections, and cash flow performance.
Review subcontractor and supplier payment applications against contractual obligations.
Claims & Change Management
Manage change orders, contract variations, and commercial claims with customers and subcontractors.
Identify commercial opportunities arising from changes in scope, project delays, customer instructions, or other project events.
Support the preparation and negotiation of claims and extension-of-time requests.
Maintain accurate commercial documentation and records to support project governance and audit requirements.
Risk Management
Conduct commercial and contractual risk assessments throughout project execution.
Develop mitigation strategies for identified commercial, financial, and contractual risks.
Monitor foreign exchange exposure, liquidated damages exposure, and project performance obligations.
Assess potential impacts arising from regulatory changes, supply chain developments, and market conditions.
Stakeholder Management
Act as the primary commercial point of contact for customers during project execution.
Build and maintain effective working relationships with project stakeholders, including developers, EPC contractors, consultants, lenders, and suppliers.
Collaborate with Finance, Legal, Procurement, Logistics, Tax, Insurance, and Project teams to achieve project objectives.
Support project governance reviews and management reporting requirements.
Reporting & Governance
Prepare periodic commercial and project performance reports.
Present project financial performance, risks, forecasts, and mitigation plans to management stakeholders.
Ensure compliance with internal governance policies, approval processes, and commercial controls.
Support project audits, compliance reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, Quantity Surveying, Engineering, Economics, Law, or a related field.
Advanced qualifications such as an MBA or Master's Degree are advantageous.
At least 8 years of relevant experience in commercial project management, contract management, project controls, project finance, or related functions within renewable energy, power generation, infrastructure, construction, or EPC environments.
Experience managing commercial aspects of large-scale infrastructure, energy, or renewable energy projects.
Knowledge of EPC contracts, turbine supply agreements, long-term service agreements, FIDIC contracts, or similar commercial frameworks.
Strong understanding of project finance, budgeting, cost control, financial forecasting, and cash flow management.
Familiarity with project accounting principles, revenue recognition, and financial reporting practices.
Ability to analyse commercial risks and develop effective mitigation strategies.
Experience working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic project environment.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and familiarity with project management or ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, Primavera, or similar platforms would be advantageous.
Experience in renewable energy projects, including wind energy developments, would be advantageous.
Knowledge of energy market regulations and renewable energy project delivery in Southeast Asia would be advantageous.
Ability to travel as required to project sites and stakeholder locations within Singapore and the region.
