Compliance Officer – Private Banking (6 months)
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Compliance Officer to join a Private Banking/Wealth Management environment on a 6-month contract.
The role provides hands-on compliance support across KYC and client due diligence, AML/CFT, Financial Security, sanctions, PEP and adverse media reviews, transaction monitoring, regulatory analysis and compliance advisory.
You will work closely with Front Office, Client Management, senior stakeholders and regional compliance teams to manage complex client cases and ensure adherence to regulatory and internal compliance requirements.
Key Responsibilities
KYC & Client Due Diligence
- Conduct end-to-end reviews of client profiles for new account openings and periodic recertifications.
- Perform client risk assessments and due diligence reviews.
- Review and assign appropriate client risk ratings.
- Assess client and transaction information to identify potential financial crime or compliance concerns.
- Review complex and higher-risk client profiles and escalate matters where required.
AML/CFT & Compliance Advisory
- Provide day-to-day compliance advice to business stakeholders on AML/CFT and Financial Security requirements.
- Advise on sanctions, PEP identification, adverse media and related financial crime risks.
- Support client risk profiling and investment suitability-related assessments where applicable.
- Partner with Front Office and Client Management teams to address compliance-related queries and cases.
Risk Governance & Committee Support
- Prepare complex client profiles and cases for presentation to local risk committees.
- Support onboarding and relationship-maintenance approval processes.
- Perform risk assessments and provide compliance input on account restrictions and unblocking decisions.
- Ensure relevant documentation and risk considerations are clearly presented to decision-makers.
Monitoring & Incident Management
- Monitor higher-risk client relationships and identify potential compliance concerns.
- Manage Financial Security incidents and support internal investigations.
- Conduct transaction reviews and escalate suspicious activity where required.
- Prepare and file Suspicious Transaction Reports (STRs) where appropriate and in accordance with internal procedures and regulatory requirements.
Regulatory & Policy Support
- Review relevant regulatory developments and consultation papers.
- Perform gap analyses between new regulatory requirements and existing internal policies and procedures.
- Support updates to policies and procedures arising from regulatory changes.
- Coordinate with regional compliance teams to support alignment across jurisdictions.
Controls, Reporting & Audit
- Execute applicable Financial Security and compliance controls.
- Maintain accurate tracking and reporting for client onboarding and periodic recertification activities.
- Monitor outstanding requirements and ensure timelines are appropriately managed.
- Support internal and external audit engagements, including preparation of relevant documentation and information.
Training & Regional Initiatives
- Provide compliance training and guidance to Front Office and Client Management teams on new or revised policies and requirements.
- Participate in regional Wealth Management compliance projects and initiatives.
- Collaborate with regional stakeholders on regulatory, policy and Financial Security matters.
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in KYC, AML/CFT, Financial Security or Compliance, preferably within Private Banking or Wealth Management.
- Strong hands-on experience conducting CDD/KYC reviews, due diligence and client risk assessments.
- Experience handling complex and/or higher-risk private banking or wealth management client profiles.
- Strong knowledge of Singapore regulatory requirements, including relevant MAS requirements.
- Exposure to regional or international regulatory frameworks, such as HKMA or EU regulations, would be advantageous.
- Strong understanding of AML/CFT, sanctions, PEP screening, adverse media, transaction monitoring and suspicious transaction reporting.
- Experience supporting or handling STRs and Financial Security incidents would be advantageous.
- Ability to interpret regulatory requirements and perform regulatory gap analyses.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with excellent attention to detail.
- Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to work effectively with Front Office, senior management and regional compliance teams.
- Comfortable presenting complex compliance cases and recommendations to senior stakeholders or risk committees.
- Able to work independently in a hands-on compliance environment.
- Able to commit to the full 6-month contract period.
