Summary
Reporting to the Director of Campus Security, the Deputy Director assists with the leadership and daily operations of Charleston Southern University's Campus Security Department and serves as the Director in their absence. The position provides supervision and training for Campus Security personnel and supports campus safety, emergency response, and crime prevention efforts.
The Deputy Director will promote a community policing approach focused on visibility, service, and building positive relationships with students, faculty, and staff. This position is expected to be an active member of the campus community and work collaboratively with University departments to create a safe and welcoming environment.
This is an essential position and may be required to report during emergencies, severe weather, and special events.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with the daily leadership, supervision, scheduling, and training of Campus Security personnel.
- Serve as Director of Campus Security in the Director's absence.
- Promote community policing and positive relationships between Campus Security and students, faculty, and staff.
- Maintain a visible presence on campus and engage with students outside of enforcement situations.
- Collaborate with Student Life, Residence Life, Athletics, Facilities, and other campus partners regarding safety concerns and initiatives.
- Respond to calls for service and investigate incidents as needed.
- Coordinate emergency and law enforcement response and work with local and state agencies when appropriate.
- Assist with emergency preparedness, campus emergency notifications, security systems, cameras, alarms, and access control.
- Assist with security planning for University events, including traffic, parking, and crowd management.
- Assist with Clery Act compliance, crime reporting, the Annual Security Report, and other required documentation.
- Support departmental training, policy development, and officer professional development.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Campus Security.
