Deputy General Counsel, Regulatory & Litigation

Lead global regulatory strategy and litigation matters across financial services, crypto-assets, blockchain, digital identity, consumer protection, payments, and emerging technologies. Manage regulatory inquiries, investigations, enforcement actions, disputes, outside counsel, crisis responses, and development of a high-performing regulatory and litigation legal function.

Responsibilities

• Lead global regulatory strategy and government engagement.
• Advise executive leadership on emerging regulatory and legal issues.
• Develop licensing, registration, and regulatory engagement strategies.
• Lead regulatory inquiries, examinations, investigations, and enforcement matters.
• Monitor global legislative, regulatory, and enforcement developments.
• Lead global litigation strategy across commercial, regulatory, employment, privacy, consumer protection, intellectual property, and other disputes.
• Manage litigation, arbitrations, investigations, enforcement actions, and high-risk matters.
• Direct outside counsel and oversee litigation budgets.
• Lead legal crisis responses and develop crisis-response frameworks.
• Build, mentor, and lead the Regulatory and Litigation legal team.
• Develop scalable litigation, regulatory, and compliance operations.
• Create legal documentation, training, and self-service resources.

Requirements

• 10–15+ years of experience as a regulatory, litigation, investigations, or enforcement attorney.
• Experience at a leading law firm, government agency, or in a senior in-house legal role supporting a technology company or highly regulated business.
• Experience managing complex litigation, regulatory inquiries, government investigations, or enforcement matters across multiple jurisdictions.
• Experience advising executive leadership on high-stakes legal, regulatory, business, and reputational issues.
• Working knowledge of U.S. employment law.
• Fluency in data privacy laws and frameworks.
• Exceptional business judgment and strong executive presence.
• Experience building or scaling legal teams, processes, and operational frameworks.
• Juris Doctor from a top-tier law school.
• Membership in at least one U.S. state bar.
• Ability to work in person from San Francisco, California.
