We are seeking an experienced Senior DevOps Engineer to join a major Australian Government technology program delivering secure, cloud-based platforms and services.
This is a hands-on role working across Microsoft Azure, Azure DevOps, DevSecOps, Infrastructure as Code and Linux environments, with a strong focus on cloud migration, automation, platform security and improving the security posture of enterprise cloud services.

The successful candidate will work within a highly technical multidisciplinary team, helping design, build and secure Azure environments supporting complex data, analytics and application platforms.
The RoleYou will be responsible for:
  • Designing, implementing and maintaining secure Microsoft Azure cloud platforms and services
  • Developing automated solutions for infrastructure and application deployment
  • Supporting the migration of applications from on-premises environments into Azure
  • Developing and maintaining Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, Ansible, PowerShell and YAML
  • Working within established DevOps and DevSecOps practices
  • Building reusable cloud capabilities and self-service automation
  • Supporting Java applications operating within Linux environments
  • Undertaking Linux administration, troubleshooting and performance tuning
  • Implementing and improving Azure security controls and cloud security practices
  • Working with Azure RBAC, Microsoft Defender for Cloud, Azure Policy and privileged administration controls
  • Automating security processes through Microsoft Azure DevOps
  • Supporting vulnerability management and remediation activities
  • Monitoring cloud services, utilisation, performance and security
  • Working closely with architects, developers, infrastructure specialists and security teams
  • Contributing to Agile/Scrum planning, prioritisation and delivery
  • Providing technical leadership and sharing knowledge across the broader program
  • Producing appropriate technical documentation and transferring knowledge to internal teams
What We’re Looking ForTo be successful, you will have:
  • Minimum 5 years' experience using DevOps within complex data, analytics or enterprise technology environments
  • Minimum 5 years' experience supporting the design, development, governance and delivery of new technical capabilities
  • Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure administration
  • Strong experience with Azure DevOps and DevSecOps
  • Strong Linux administration experience
  • Demonstrated experience developing and maintaining IaC using Terraform, Ansible, PowerShell and/or YAML
  • Strong understanding of cloud security, automation and infrastructure engineering
  • Experience working across complex enterprise environments with multiple technical and business stakeholders
  • Strong communication, documentation and stakeholder engagement skills
Experience with Kubernetes and/or web application development will be highly regarded.
Security RequirementsApplicants must be Australian Citizens and hold, or be willing and eligible to obtain, an Australian Government NV1 security clearance.

The successful candidate will also be required to successfully complete an additional organisational suitability assessment before commencing.
Location & Working ArrangementsThis position is Canberra based and candidates must be located in the ACT.

The role will initially require candidates to work primarily onsite in Canberra. Up to two days per week remote working may be negotiated after six months, subject to operational requirements and approval.
Contract
  • Initial 12-month contract
  • Potential for 2 x 12-month extensions
  • Up to 40 hours per week
  • Expected commencement: December 2026, with an earlier start potentially available for candidates who have satisfied all security requirements
