The Opportunity

The Finance Director Germany is the senior finance leader for the country affiliate, serving as the strategic business partner to the Country Manager and local Leadership Team while acting as the primary interface between the local business and the European Finance organization. The role ensures the successful delivery of finance operations through regional shared service teams and external partners, while providing financial leadership to the affiliate across planning, performance management, governance, statutory compliance, and business decision support. The Finance Director plays a critical role in enabling standardized finance processes across Europe while ensuring local business needs and regulatory requirements are effectively addressed.

Finance Leadership & Business Partnership

  • Serve as the primary finance representative and trusted advisor to the General Manager and local Leadership Team.

  • Partner with Commercial, Medical, Market Access, HR and other business functions to support strategic and operational decision-making.

  • Provide financial leadership to support commercial execution, launch readiness, resource allocation and investment decisions.

  • Evaluate business cases, contracts and strategic initiatives, providing objective financial recommendations.

  • Promote financial discipline and accountability across the affiliate.

Regional Finance Coordination

  • Act as the primary operational finance interface between the affiliate and the European Finance Shared Service organization.

  • Support the execution of transactional finance activities delivered centrally, including General Ledger, Procure to Pay, VAT, Payroll, Revenue Accounting, FP&A support and other finance operations.

  • Coordinate month-end close activities between local stakeholders and regional finance teams to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.

  • Ensure efficient resolution of finance operational issues impacting the affiliate.

  • Build collaborative relationships with Corporate Finance, Shared Services and external service providers to ensure seamless finance operations.

Planning, Performance & Decision Support

  • Lead preparation of the annual budget (Revenue/Demand and expenses), re-forecasts, three-year operating plan and cash-flow forecasts

  • Coordinate development and monitoring of the country Profit & Loss statement, operating expenses and headcount plans.

  • Challenge business assumptions and support scenario planning and financial modelling.

  • Monitor financial performance, KPIs, risks and opportunities, providing actionable recommendations to leadership.

  • Support business growth through robust financial analysis and performance management.

Revenue & Gross-to-Net

  • Partner with Commercial, Market Access and the Regional Revenue Accounting to develop and validate country gross-to-net assumptions.

  • Provide local market insights supporting rebates, discounts, returns and other revenue adjustments.

  • Review and challenge gross-to-net estimates to support accurate financial reporting.

  • Support revenue forecasting, variance analysis and commercial performance reviews.

Statutory, Compliance & Governance

  • Coordinate preparation and review of local statutory financial statements with regional accounting teams and external service providers.

  • Support local tax compliance, statutory reporting and treasury activities.

  • Act as the primary finance contact for statutory audits, tax audits and regulatory inspections.

  • Support legal entity governance, including Board meetings, statutory approvals and corporate compliance requirements.

  • Monitor changes in local accounting, tax and regulatory requirements and assess business impact.

  • Ensure adherence to company policies, internal controls and financial governance standards.

Finance Operations & Continuous Improvement

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across finance processes in partnership with the European Finance organization.

  • Support implementation of regional finance systems, controls and standard operating procedures.

  • Identify financial, operational and compliance risks and recommend mitigation actions.

  • Contribute to the continued evolution of the European finance operating model.

Required Skills, Experience and Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or a related field; professional accounting qualification preferred.

  • 10+ years of progressive finance experience, including leadership responsibilities in a multinational environment.

  • Experience in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, life sciences, or other regulated industries preferred.

  • Strong experience in FP&A, business partnering, statutory reporting, governance and internal controls.

  • Experience operating within a regional shared services finance model is highly desirable.

  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management and influencing skills.

  • Hands-on, analytical and proactive approach with the ability to operate successfully in a dynamic, fast-paced commercial environment.
