Finance Business Analyst

Summary

Finance Business Analyst at Southern Cross Health Insurance (Auckland) prepares management reporting, budgeting and forecasting analysis while owning and improving the data, models and processes underpinning reporting, with Excel, Power BI, SQL and TechnologyOne.

About us

Southern Cross Health Insurance is shaping a healthier Aotearoa New Zealand. Our purpose is simple: empowering our members to live well for longer. We're here to give peace of mind through timely access to quality care, inspire healthier living, and lead positive change across the health system. As a New Zealand-owned, member-based organisation, we're building a future where wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do -- delivering exceptional value for our members and creating an environment where our people thrive.

Now is an exciting time to join us. You'll be part of a high-performing, values-driven team where people are at the heart of everything we do -- and in return for your talent, you'll have the opportunity to grow, make an impact, and be proud of the difference your work makes.

About the role

Southern Cross Health Insurance is guided by purpose, powered by people and technology. We're here to help almost one million members across Aotearoa New Zealand live well for longer – work with real scale, real responsibility, and a real opportunity to make a meaningful difference.

Our Decision Support team is a high performing team that moves at pace, and we're looking for a proactive Finance Business Analyst to join us. This is a great opportunity for an established analyst who has built solid foundations in financial planning, reporting and analysis, and is ready to take ownership of how things are done – with a clear pathway to develop into business partnering and more forward-looking commercial work over time.

About the role

Reporting into the Decision Support team, you'll prepare reporting and analysis that supports effective financial management and decision-making, while owning and improving the data, models and processes that underpin our reporting.

We’re evolving our ways of working, so you'll need to be comfortable working through ambiguity when the path is not always clear.

This role will evolve with you. As you demonstrate capability, there will be opportunities to take on more forward-looking analysis and develop towards a business partnering career path.

What you'll do

  • Supporting the delivery of the annual business planning, quarterly forecasting and monthly management reporting processes

  • Preparing reporting and analysis to assist in effective financial management and decision-making

  • Working with a portfolio of business units across sales, marketing and value streams

  • Responding to ad hoc analysis requests with curiosity, initiative and attention to detail, even when the brief isn't fully defined

  • Owning and improving the data, models and processes that underpin our reporting

  • Bringing a genuine passion for continuous improvement – proactively identifying opportunities to streamline, automate and reduce manual effort across our processes, rather than waiting to be asked

What you'll bring

  • A relevant qualification, e.g., accounting, commerce / finance, economics or related

  • Proven experience in a finance analyst or similar role, with a solid understanding of how the general ledger, budgeting and financial planning processes work

  • Hands-on experience supporting budgeting, forecasting or planning cycles

  • Strong Excel skills and the ability to use data to identify trends and solve problems

  • Exposure to sales and marketing functions (a bonus, not a requirement)

  • The learning agility to pick up new systems – experience with TechnologyOne, Power BI or SQL is an advantage

  • Strong interpersonal skills and clear communication, both verbal and written

  • Proactive and comfortable moving at pace, with the initiative to progress work without needing every answer to be clear-cut before you start

  • The ability to effectively prioritise and manage your workload, shifting between tasks when required
