We are looking for an experienced Food Research & Development (R&D) Manager / Assistant Manager to lead food innovation projects and a team of food technologists in developing, modifying and commercialising nutritional and future food products.

This role offers an opportunity to work across food science, nutrition, product innovation and commercialisation, while contributing to the development of new food technologies and future research directions.

🧪 Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a team of Food Technologists / R&D researchers in food product development and innovation

• Initiate, plan and manage food R&D projects from concept development through laboratory trials to commercialisation

• Develop innovative food concepts and recipes based on food industry trends, consumer needs, health and nutrition

• Lead the development of products across areas such as bakery, confectionery, dairy and culinary applications

• Translate concepts into scalable food products and support technology transfer from laboratory to production scale

• Evaluate and apply ingredients including flour, oils and fats, proteins and other functional food ingredients

• Collaborate with scientists and technical teams to provide food technology expertise and technical recommendations

• Work with industry stakeholders and external partners on food technology and product development initiatives

• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior researchers and food technologists

• Lead cross-disciplinary innovation projects and strengthen food technology capabilities within the organisation

• Monitor emerging food, health and nutrition trends and identify opportunities for new product development

• Make technically sound decisions based on scientific principles, product requirements and commercial considerations

• Contribute to strategic planning and business development for future food innovation initiatives

🎯 Job Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Nutrition or a related discipline

• 5–7 years of relevant food industry / R&D experience

• Minimum 5 years of experience in food R&D supervision, project leadership or an equivalent role

• Experience in bakery, confectionery, dairy and/or culinary product development is highly relevant

• Proven track record in food product innovation and commercialisation

• Strong understanding of the complete product development cycle, from conceptualisation and laboratory development to production scale-up and technology transfer

• Experience managing multiple food R&D and innovation projects

• Strong hands-on knowledge of ingredient applications and formulation

• Experience leading or working with cross-disciplinary teams

• Strong commercial awareness with the ability to evaluate technical decisions from both scientific and business perspectives

• Strong leadership, problem-solving and decision-making skills

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Ability to influence stakeholders and communicate technical concepts effectively

• Creative, forward-thinking and passionate about food innovation, technology and nutrition
