Overview

The Youth Leadership Institute (yli) is a nonprofit focused on empowering youth—especially youth of color and low-income communities—to lead social justice and policy change efforts. Their work centers on inclusion, youth voice, innovation, and community collaboration.

Role Summary: Program Coordinator

The Program Coordinator works directly with youth (ages 12–18) across multiple Fresno County school sites to develop leadership, organize campaigns, and drive community and policy change. The role blends youth development, community organizing, and project management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Recruit and engage diverse youth and adult allies into advocacy campaigns.
  • Build strong relationships with youth, schools, community leaders, and partners.
  • Facilitate workshops and trainings that develop leadership, organizing, and advocacy skills.
  • Support and manage youth-led campaigns focused on health, equity, and social justice issues.
  • Coordinate events such as meetings, rallies, and community outreach efforts.
  • Use media and social platforms to amplify campaigns.
  • Track data, maintain records, and complete reports for funders and internal systems.
  • Stay informed on local policies and community issues to guide campaign strategy.

Qualifications

  • 2–3 years of experience in youth development, community organizing, or related work (or a bachelor’s degree).
  • Strong project management, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Experience working with diverse communities and leading youth-focused initiatives.
  • Commitment to social justice and public health approaches.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and manage multiple responsibilities.
