Junior Strong/Middle General QA Engineer
Blackthorn Vision is looking for a Middle General QA Engineer. Our client, established in 2011 and based in Colorado, is a leading player in the U.S. application management market. We’ve had a successful partnership with this client and are seeking candidates who are eager to take ownership and improve a product already trusted by over 6,000 enterprises.
Requirements:
~1.5+ years of hands-on QA experience — primarily manual, with some exposure to automation.
Good understanding of test planning, risk assessment, test design, execution, and defect reporting.
Experience testing web and desktop applications, including verifying installs on virtual machines (VMs).
Hands-on REST API testing with Swagger (OpenAPI).
Basic experience querying MongoDB (NoSQL) to validate test data.
Comfortable with Azure DevOps for test documentation and defect tracking; familiarity with CI/CD concepts (tests run via Azure DevOps Pipelines).
Basic Git (branch, commit, push, pull requests).
Exposure to automation with Playwright + TypeScript — or a strong desire and ability to learn it.
Proficiency with browser developer tools (Console, Network, Application) and basic debugging via browser logs / network traffic analysis.
Ability to identify automation candidates while testing manually.
Comfortable using VS Code + GitHub Copilot to assist test-plan / test-case creation.
Experience working in Agile teams.
Upper-Intermediate level of English.
Nice to Have
Experience with AI-assisted testing tools (GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude, etc.).
Exposure to CI/CD pipeline configuration or contributing to a test automation framework.
Docker basics (occasionally used to run tests on local test environments).
Responsibilities
Own feature quality primarily through manual testing (~70%): test planning, design, execution, and defect reporting.
Contribute to automation (~30%): write and maintain Playwright/TypeScript tests for suitable cases and help improve the framework.
Create, execute, and maintain manual (and some automated) test cases, test documentation, and regression suites in Azure DevOps.
Perform functional, regression, API (Swagger), and backend testing (APIs, MongoDB, logs), including install verification on VMs; basic non-functional checks.
Identify, document, track, and verify defects; debug basic issues via browser logs and network traffic.
Identify repetitive scenarios worth automating and flag/automate them.
Analyze test results and communicate findings; participate in Agile ceremonies.
Contribute to post-release quality analysis (Root Cause Analysis) and preventive improvements.
