NEWRI is looking for excellent candidates for a lab manager position to support research activities in the institute.
Job Description:
Ensure lab operations are compliant with safety regulations.
Ensure fiscal and operational discipline in the day to day activities of the lab.
Be responsible for good housekeeping within the premise.
Constantly explore avenues to streamline lab operations to enhance productivity – example, ensuring availability of lab supplies to ensure smooth operations while simultaneously making sure there is no excess inventory.
Help with routine safety audits, serve as the custodian for licensed chemicals, educate and provide training to the lab users to maintain a safe work environment.
Serve as the point person to relay key safety information to the lab users and ensure adherence on the ground.
Help new lab users with familiarization to NEWRI’s procedures related to purchasing and safety documentation.
Closely track spending on items related to NEWRI’s Core (basic supplies) and NEWRI’s Projects categories. Document expenses and generate reports for senior management.
Maintain database on the usage of lab instruments under NEWRI’s CEBS system.
As the lab manager, liaise with suppliers/vendors/contractors to repair faulty/non-functional instruments/equipment.
Responsible for preventive maintenance of lab equipment.
Work closely with the other lab managers and the Safety department to ensure a safe work environment.
Be the go-to person for all matters related to the laboratory premise under his/her charge.
Requirements:
At least a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry / Chemical Engineering.
Candidate with 3-5 years of experience managing a laboratory in an academic or industrial setting is highly preferred.
Strong commitment to safety.
A strong sense of ownership, drive, initiative and multitasking ability.
Strong communication and influencing skills.
Highly independent and strong interpersonal skills with good team player abilities.
