- Applies knowledge of anatomy, physiology, clinical disease processes, and diagnostic terminology to determine appropriate code assignments.
- Analyzes medical records, interprets documentation, and assigns proper ICD-10 codes.
- Assists laboratories in reviewing all assigned work queues daily, completing accounts within 3 days.
- Assists outpatient services to ensure medical necessity was met, utilizing designated software and policies.
- Reviews claim edits and revises coding as appropriate for specific CPT/HCPCS codes.
- Seeks clarification from physicians or other staff in cases where documentation is absent, ambiguous, or contradictory.
- Reviews claims returned from various departments due to edits and processes corrections for clean claim submission or post-denial review for appeal.
- Identifies charge opportunities and ensures charts have all appropriate charges applied, manually adding or modifying charges as needed.
- Monitors work queues to minimize the number of accounts held from billing.
- Evaluates outreach, outpatient orders, requisitions, and laboratory specimens for completeness and accuracy.
- Reviews outreach client billing charges and initiates the billing process to generate invoices.
- Provides accounting department reports as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Able to utilize computers and technology efficiently. [Required]
- Proficient in Microsoft Office – especially Outlook, Excel, and Teams. [Required]
- One year of experience with computer input procedures. [Required]
- Must possess positive communication and customer service skills. Able to interact with staff at all levels. [Required]
- Must be self-motivating, task oriented, and able to prioritize workload. [Required]
- Knowledge of clinical billing language, e.g., ICDs, DRG, CPT, etc. [Required]
- Must be proficient in the English language. [Required]
- Skilled in Epic electronic medical records [Preferred]
Education:
- Associate's [Preferred]
Work Experience:
- 3+ work experience in a hospital, billing, revenue, or coding department [Required]
Additional Information:
- Due to regulatory body nomenclature changes in 2022 and 2023, MT(ASCP) and MT(AMT) are denoted now as MLS (ASCP) and MLS (AMT).
Licenses and Certifications:
- Medical Lab Scientist (MLSAMT) [Preferred]

$21.56 - $40.09Background Screening Requirement (Florida Law)
