Lead Node.js Software Engineer

EPAM is looking for a Lead Node.js Software Engineer to join our team.

In this role, you'll design and develop scalable backend services using Node.js, Nest.js, and TypeScript, build robust GraphQL and REST APIs, and work with AWS and/or Azure cloud environments. You'll also have the opportunity to research and integrate AI capabilities, including LLM-based solutions, into production applications.

You'll collaborate closely with engineers, architects, product teams, and other stakeholders to solve complex technical challenges and deliver reliable, high-quality solutions.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and scale robust backend services using Node.js, Nest.js, and TypeScript
• Design, build, and optimize GraphQL and REST APIs, ensuring reliable and seamless third-party integrations
• Deploy, manage, and optimize backend applications and cloud environments on AWS and/or Azure
• Research, evaluate, and integrate AI models and services to deliver intelligent product features
• Integrate AI/ML APIs, including LLM-based solutions, into production applications
• Collaborate with engineers, architects, product managers, and other stakeholders to design effective technical solutions
• Participate actively in Scrum events, including Sprint Planning, Daily Standups, and Retrospectives
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to maintaining high engineering standards
• Write clean, maintainable, and testable code and contribute to automated testing practices
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex backend, API, integration, and performance issues
• Contribute to architectural discussions and continuously improve backend development practices

Requirements

• 5+ years of practical experience in backend development
• At least 1 year of relevant leadership experience
• Strong hands-on experience with Node.js, Nest.js, and TypeScript
• Proven experience designing and developing GraphQL APIs
• Solid experience building REST APIs and integrating complex third-party services
• Hands-on experience with AWS and/or Azure cloud platforms
• Practical experience integrating AI/ML APIs, such as OpenAI and other LLM-based services, into production environments
• Good understanding of backend architecture, scalable systems, and microservices principles
• Experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment
• Strong understanding of software development best practices, clean code, testing, and code quality
• Ability to collaborate effectively with developers, architects, product teams, and other stakeholders
• Upper-Intermediate or higher level of English
