Legal Counsel
You will support Wave's Legal Team and contribute to growth and compliance objectives in Burkina Faso and Niger. The role involves practical legal advice, legal risk management, contract work, dispute management, employment support, regulatory guidance, and collaboration with operational and functional teams. You will report to the Head of Legal.
Responsibilities
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts across all business areas.
- Support contract drafting and review for Wave's core products and services.
- Lead and participate in complex, high-value contract negotiations.
- Manage contracting processes, policies, systems, electronic signatures, and document archiving.
- Implement group legal policies and propose updates based on legal developments and best practices.
- Manage legal claims and disputes, including pre-litigation strategy, mediation, arbitration, and litigation follow-up.
- Provide legal support for employment matters, including contracts, disciplinary procedures, and terminations.
- Support the company secretary.
- Identify legal risks and implement mitigations and internal controls with Risk and Controls teams.
- Support the data privacy compliance framework.
- Provide legal advice on licensing and regulatory requirements.
- Build relationships with external law firms and manage legal service delivery.
- Contribute to cross-functional legal initiatives and other legal priorities.
Requirements
- Master's degree in Law or equivalent.
- 3–5 years of professional legal experience, ideally in a corporate or regulatory environment.
- Fluency in written and spoken French and English.
- Experience in corporate governance, including board and shareholder meetings.
- Strong knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements for corporate and commercial activities.
- Experience in a law firm or the financial or telecommunications sector.
