Marketing Counsel
Provide legal review and practical, risk-calibrated advice for public-facing marketing and communications, campaigns, product launches, events, brand and intellectual-property matters, strategic deals, and related commercial agreements. Build scalable legal processes, templates, guidance, training, and intake workflows.
Responsibilities
- Own legal review of outward-facing marketing and communications materials across channels.
- Advise stakeholders on public-facing content, campaign strategy, product messaging, partner marketing, and external positioning.
- Identify and help mitigate legal, regulatory, reputational, contractual, privacy, and consumer-protection risks.
- Support marketing aspects of strategic business deals, including diligence, KYC coordination, drafting, negotiation, deliverables, and payment mechanics.
- Partner with Marketing leadership on strategy, campaign planning, thought leadership, and cross-functional issues.
- Support owned and third-party events, including contracts, sponsorships, waivers, releases, collateral, and operational issues.
- Support brand and intellectual-property work, including trademark portfolio management, naming, rebrands, clearance, contested matters, and protection.
- Review product launch materials, webpages, explainers, FAQs, and announcements.
- Develop legal processes, templates, guidelines, playbooks, training, and intake workflows.
- Draft, review, and negotiate marketing, advertising, SaaS, event, vendor, sponsorship, partnership, grant, and services agreements.
Requirements
- J.D. from an accredited law school.
- Active membership in good standing with at least one United States state bar.
- At least 3 years of relevant law firm and/or in-house legal experience.
- Working knowledge of marketing, advertising, promotions, sponsorships, endorsements, social media, online advertising, consumer protection, privacy, intellectual property, data protection, and consumer financial services law.
- Ability to assess legal, regulatory, reputational, contractual, privacy, securities, commodities, and consumer-protection risks.
- Strong drafting, editing, written communication, business judgment, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize competing requests, and manage time-sensitive projects.
- Experience drafting, reviewing, or negotiating commercial agreements related to marketing or outward-facing initiatives.
- Interest in blockchain, digital assets, payments, and open-source technology; prior blockchain or crypto experience is helpful but not required.
- Motivation to build practical legal processes, templates, playbooks, training, and workflows.
