Summary
Network Engineer at Hylant (insurance brokerage) designs, configures, and maintains enterprise network infrastructure including LAN/WAN, wireless, VPN, Palo Alto next-gen firewalls, and Zscaler secure access (SASE/ZTNA) platforms. Day-to-day work spans routing/switching, Microsoft Azure cloud networking, network monitoring/troubleshooting, and supporting office moves and acquisition integrations.
The Opportunity:
The Network Engineer designs, configures, and maintains Hylant's enterprise network and secure connectivity services, including LAN, WAN, wireless, VPN, next-generation firewall, and secure access (SASE) platforms. This role keeps Hylant's offices reliably and securely connected, delivers network work for infrastructure projects and acquisition integrations, and provides escalated troubleshooting for network and connectivity issues.
In This Role You Will Execute On:
· Network Operations & Reliability: Monitor availability, performance, and capacity; troubleshoot and resolve network incidents; analyze trends; and recommend improvements that strengthen uptime, capacity, security, and user experience.
· Routing, Switching & Wireless: Configure and maintain routers, switches, wireless controllers and access points, IP addressing and IPAM, DNS and DHCP, VLANs, 802.1X/NAC, and QoS for voice and Microsoft Teams calling; contribute to design, standards, upgrades, and equipment refresh initiatives.
· Secure Connectivity: Implement and maintain next-generation firewall and VPN configurations, secure access and secure web gateway policy, network segmentation, and remote access in accordance with Hylant security standards; support firmware, certificate, licensing, and resiliency lifecycle planning.
· Cloud & Hybrid Networking: Support connectivity between Hylant offices, Microsoft Azure, and cloud and SaaS platforms, including virtual network configuration, private connectivity and peering, zero trust network access, and traffic optimization for business critical platforms.
· Offices, Projects & Acquisition Integration: Deliver network work for new offices, office moves, and branch changes, and for the integration of acquired agencies, including site assessments, circuit coordination, cutover planning, execution, and post-cutover validation.
· Change Management & Documentation: Follow change control practices, including change requests, approved maintenance windows, testing, and rollback plans; maintain accurate diagrams, configuration standards, inventories, and runbooks; and provide network configuration evidence for internal reviews, external audits and assessments, cyber insurance applications, and client security questionnaires.
· Support & Collaboration: Provide second- and third-level support for network-related incidents and requests, serve as a technical resource for cross-functional projects, and share network troubleshooting knowledge across the IT team.
In This Role You Will Need:
· Education & Training: Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field preferred; relevant experience may substitute for a degree.
· Experience: 3 plus years supporting LAN/WAN, wireless, routing, switching, firewalls, VPN, and enterprise network environments.
· Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, IP addressing and subnetting, routing and switching, wireless, VLANs and segmentation, network monitoring, network security principles, and structured troubleshooting.
· Preferred Platform Experience: Hands-on experience with Palo Alto next-generation firewalls, Zscaler (ZIA/ZPA) or a comparable secure access/secure web gateway platform, Cisco Meraki switching and wireless access points including cloud-managed dashboard administration, SD-WAN, and Microsoft Azure networking is preferred; equivalent experience on comparable platforms will be considered.
· Cloud & Hybrid Networking: Working familiarity with cloud and hybrid network design concepts, zero trust network access, and network optimization for Microsoft 365 and other SaaS platforms.
· Documentation & Planning: Able to create clear diagrams, procedures, implementation plans, inventories, and operational runbooks.
· Communication & Collaboration: Able to explain technical concepts clearly, work well across teams, and provide strong customer service.
· Certifications: Network+ or CCNA preferred. Palo Alto (PCNSA/PCNSE), Zscaler, wireless, cloud, or security-related certifications are a plus; equivalent hands-on experience will be considered in place of certification.

The Work Environment:
· This position is based in Hylant’s Toledo, Ohio office in a hybrid capacity. Regular on-site presence is required to support network equipment and infrastructure areas.
· Work is generally performed in an office or technology environment and requires physical effort, including lifting and carrying equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, rack-mounting hardware, using ladders, and accessing network closets, cabling pathways, and related infrastructure areas.
· Occasional evening and weekend work is required to support scheduled maintenance windows, upgrades, and office or acquisition cutovers.
· Travel to Hylant offices is required, generally up to 20%, including travel to support new offices, office moves, equipment refresh, and acquisition integration work.
