Operations Manager
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Operations Manager to join a leading organisation within the aerospace manufacturing and engineering sector.
The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the efficient movement of work, people, materials and resources across a complex manufacturing value stream. This is a hands-on operational leadership position suited to someone who understands production environments, Lean manufacturing and the importance of maintaining a consistent and efficient workflow.
You will work closely with manufacturing, engineering, quality, planning and support functions to identify bottlenecks, improve productivity and ensure that operational activities are delivered safely, efficiently and according to schedule.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and optimise the flow of activities across the assigned manufacturing value stream.
- Coordinate and allocate manpower, equipment and other resources according to production requirements.
- Monitor workflow and production performance, identifying constraints, delays and potential bottlenecks.
- Drive initiatives to improve productivity, efficiency, lead times and overall operational performance.
- Apply Lean Manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies to improve processes and eliminate waste.
- Work closely with production and engineering teams to resolve operational issues and maintain smooth workflow.
- Take a hands-on approach to supporting day-to-day manufacturing activities and resolving issues on the shop floor.
- Monitor production priorities and ensure activities remain aligned with delivery requirements.
- Collaborate with planning, quality, engineering and other stakeholders to address issues affecting production flow.
- Analyse operational data and performance indicators to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Support root-cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions where required.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement, accountability and operational excellence.
- Ensure all activities are conducted in accordance with applicable safety, quality and regulatory requirements.
- Provide regular updates on production status, constraints, risks and improvement initiatives to relevant stakeholders.
Requirements
- Diploma or Degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, Industrial Engineering or a related discipline.
- Several years of experience in a manufacturing, production or industrial engineering environment.
- Experience managing or coordinating production flow within a complex manufacturing operation.
- Strong understanding of Lean Manufacturing, continuous improvement and operational excellence.
- Demonstrated experience in manpower/resource planning and production coordination.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical capabilities, with the ability to identify bottlenecks and implement practical solutions.
- Comfortable working directly with production teams and spending time on the shop floor.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Able to work effectively across multiple functions and manage competing operational priorities.
- Experience in aerospace, aviation, precision engineering, MRO or other highly regulated manufacturing environments will be highly advantageous.
- Familiarity with tools such as 5S, Kaizen, Value Stream Mapping, Root Cause Analysis, Visual Management or similar Lean methodologies would be an advantage.
What We Are Looking For
We are looking for someone who is operationally driven, hands-on and comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
The ideal candidate is not simply a planner or coordinator. You should be someone who can walk the shop floor, understand what is affecting production, mobilise the right resources and work with different teams to keep operations moving.
Candidates with backgrounds in aerospace manufacturing, aircraft components, MRO, precision engineering, automotive or other complex manufacturing environments are encouraged to apply.
