Peer Support Specialist

The mission of the Peer Specialist is to assist persons served by providing services and supports necessary to assist the recipient in achieving and maintaining rehabilitative, sobriety, and recovery goals. This is intended to meet the mental health or substance abuse needs of adults who have significant functional impairments that seriously interfere with or impede their roles or functioning in family, school, or community. Tasks include assessments, planning, linkage, advocacy, and monitoring. The Peer Specialist works with the person to obtain entitlements, resources, housing, educational opportunities, employment, etc. to enable the person to become independent and functional. The Peer Specialist serves a broad range case load consistent with credentials and experience. The Peer Specialist consistently exercises discretion and sound judgment in the performance of the duties of the position.
