A Day in the Life
The Patient Care Systems (PCS) organisation develops and supports the software ecosystem that enables the monitoring, management, and protection of patients living with implantable cardiac devices. The Cloud & Engineering Platforms function provides the shared platforms, automation, infrastructure, security, data, and engineering enablement capabilities that support software development and operational excellence across PCS teams. This team focuses on improving reliability, scalability, developer productivity, and platform adoption through modern cloud and platform engineering practices.This role is at our Campus in Parkmore, Galway City, Ireland and is a hybrid working model.

A Day in the Life:
As a Software Cloud Engineer within the PCS organisation, you will help develop and operate the software ecosystem supporting Medtronic implantable cardiac devices. Working across the software development lifecycle, you will contribute to shared cloud and platform capabilities that support application, network, mobile, connectivity, and embedded-device solutions.
You will collaborate with global, cross-functional teams to build secure, scalable, and reliable services while developing your expertise in automation, cloud computing, security, and operational excellence.
Primary Responsibilities:
Contribute to the design, development, testing, deployment, operation, and support of shared engineering platforms and services.
Build reusable automation, tools, documentation, and runbooks that improve developer productivity, operational efficiency, and platform reliability.
Support software delivery, infrastructure, data, security, and engineering enablement initiatives.
Troubleshoot technical issues and identify opportunities to improve systems, services, and engineering workflows.
Collaborate with software engineers, architects, security specialists, data professionals, and infrastructure teams.
Learn and apply engineering practices across software development, automation, cloud computing, security, reliability, and operational excellence.
Key Skills & Experience
Must Have:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline.
Foundational knowledge of software engineering and computing concepts gained through education, internships, personal projects, or professional experience.
Exposure to programming, scripting, automation, cloud technologies, or data systems.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, written, and verbal communication skills.
Ability to collaborate within a technical team, seek guidance when appropriate, and learn new technologies and engineering practices.
Nice to Have
Experience or familiarity with one or more of the following will provide a strong foundation for success:
Cloud platforms, infrastructure services, containerisation, or modern application platforms.
Software development using a modern programming or scripting language.
Source control, automated testing, and continuous integration or delivery practices.
Infrastructure automation or configuration management.
Data processing, event streaming, databases, or distributed systems.
Observability, monitoring, security, quality, compliance, or operational support practices.
Developer productivity, self-service platforms, or engineering enablement solutions.
