Platform Support Engineer (Operations)
Working as part of our Platform Support team, you will gain hands-on exposure to production systems, cloud infrastructure, monitoring, incident management and application deployments. Most importantly, we're looking for someone who is technically curious, enjoys troubleshooting and problem-solving, communicates well, and is keen to learn. We don't expect junior candidates to know everything from day one – training and support will be provided as you develop within the role
The role also provides a strong foundation for future progression into areas such as DevOps, Software Development, Systems Administration and Infrastructure Engineering.
The successful candidate will be accountable for:
- Participating in a 24/7
shift rotation role as part of the platform support engineering team
- Monitoring live services, ensuring platform stability
- Following incident management processes and providing on-call capability; identifying, troubleshooting
and escalating issues in an appropriate manner
- Identifying environment and/or process improvements, gathering
requirements and raising change requests
- Working closely with the wider Development, DevOps
and Infrastructure/Security teams to ensure appropriate attention is given to production/system reliability for both
external customers and internal stakeholders. - Building and maintaining a strong knowledge of our products and services and being able to provide education and support on technical issues.
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications/skills:
- Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related technical field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Familiarity with Windows and Linux operating systems, with an interest in developing stronger Linux and command-line skills.
- Familiarity with any programming or scripting languages and an ability to read and understand code
- Familiarity with monitoring and log aggregation tools.
- Basic knowledge of networking concepts, such as protocols/ports,
firewall
rules and subnetting.
- A proactive approach to troubleshooting, with the ability to take ownership of issues through to resolution or appropriate escalation.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Good command of the English language, both verbal and written.
- Team-oriented, with a willingness to collaborate and work towards shared goals.
Nice to have:
- Previous technical experience through employment, internships, university work or personal projects.
- Exposure to AWS cloud services (or similar) as well as troubleshooting experience, such as EC2, ELB, EKS, Lambda.
- Exposure
to Docker and/or Kubernetes.
- Exposure to configuration management tools.
