Principal Data Engineer owning the architecture of Blattner's Microsoft Fabric Data Lakehouse platform supporting Wind, Solar, Battery, Data Center, and Gas business units. Hands-on role designing medallion architectures, building pipelines across 30+ enterprise systems, and mentoring data developers using SQL, Python, PySpark, and the Azure modern data stack.
A DAY IN THE LIFE
Blattner Company is building a Modern Data Platform on Microsoft Fabric to support data needs across our Wind, Solar, Battery, Data Center, and Gas business units. The Principal Data Engineer will own the technical architecture of this platform, establish engineering standards, and serve as a hands-on mentor to the data development team. This role works closely with Data and IT leadership on platform direction and is responsible for ensuring the right technical foundation is in place as the platform scales.
STEP INTO THE ROLE
- Designs, builds, and owns the end-to-end architecture of Blattner’s Microsoft Fabric Data Lakehouse (Bronze / Silver / Gold medallion architecture).
- Serves as the primary technical mentor for the data development team, elevating capability across the board through hands-on guidance, code review, and pair work.
- Builds and maintains data pipelines across 30+ source systems including JDE EnterpriseOne, Workday, HCSS HeavyJob, Procore, Salesforce, and ServiceNow.
- Evaluates emerging technologies and data trends and recommends adoption to leadership.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Analytics, Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
- 10 or more years of hands-on data engineering experience with progressive technical scope. Deep expertise in Microsoft Fabric – Lakehouse, Pipelines, Dataflows Gen2, Eventstream, KQL, Notebooks, Semantic Models, Purview, strong command of the broader modern data stack: Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL, ADLS Gen2, Delta Lake / Delta Sharing, APIM, expert-level SQL and Python; experience with Spark / PySpark. Proven experience designing medallion (Bronze/Silver/Gold) or equivalent Lakehouse architectures at scale. Experience integrating enterprise source systems (ERP, HRIS, CRM, field ops) into a centralized data platform.
WHAT SETS YOU APART
- Experience with Databricks and Unity Catalog, particularly in multi-platform interoperability scenarios.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Purview for data governance, lineage, and sensitivity labeling.
- Microsoft certifications: Fabric Analytics Engineer, Azure Data Engineer Associate, or equivalent.
- Background in EPC, construction, energy, or infrastructure industries.
