Principal Systems Engineer - IaaS/Hardware
Lead the design, standardization, and modernization of MARA’s global IaaS platforms across hybrid and cloud-native environments. Define infrastructure architecture, automation, networking, storage, observability, GitOps, CI/CD, security, and platform enablement practices.
Responsibilities
- Architect and evolve the IaaS platform across hybrid environments.
- Design and maintain infrastructure automation frameworks using Terraform, Pulumi, and Ansible.
- Develop reusable infrastructure providers, modules, and standards.
- Define engineering standards for provisioning, networking, and observability.
- Evaluate and integrate OpenShift, Kubernetes, MAAS, Ceph, and related platforms.
- Drive multi-tenant PaaS initiatives and private cloud modernization.
- Align IaaS architecture with data, ML, and platform workloads.
- Establish GitOps and CI/CD frameworks for infrastructure delivery.
- Lead capacity planning, HA/DR strategy, monitoring, and alerting design.
- Embed zero-trust OIDC, SAML, IAM, and secret-management practices.
- Mentor engineers and contribute to documentation, workshops, and technical enablement.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience designing and operating large-scale infrastructure across on-premises and cloud environments.
- Expertise in Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, Pulumi, and Ansible, including reusable modules and providers.
- Deep understanding of hybrid and private cloud platforms including OpenShift, Juju, MAAS, OpenStack, VMware, and Proxmox.
- Strong storage and networking experience with Ceph, TrueNAS, S3, NFS, VLAN, VXLAN, and SDN.
- Experience building GitOps deployment pipelines and maintaining production-grade Kubernetes environments.
- Familiarity with MLflow, Airflow, Databricks, or Spark infrastructure integration.
- Strong proficiency in Python, Go, and Bash.
- Excellent cross-functional leadership, communication, and mentorship skills.
- Preferred: experience with HPC, ML infrastructure, sovereign or regulated environments, energy-aware computing, modular data centers, or ESG-driven infrastructure design.
