Salary: $900/day + superannuation

An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Project Manager to lead a significant Portfolio Management Improvement Project within a large Queensland Government infrastructure environment.

This is not a technology transformation project. The focus is on improving the way major infrastructure projects are governed, prioritised, planned and delivered, strengthening organisational capability and establishing consistent project management practices across a complex portfolio.

The organisation oversees approximately $2 billion in annual infrastructure investment supporting a significant asset base, and is undertaking a broader program of business improvement to strengthen portfolio performance, governance, asset management and financial oversight.
As Project Manager, you will lead the Portfolio Management Improvement stream and play a key role in embedding a scalable and consistent project lifecycle, with strong governance and assurance at its core.

What You'll Be Doing
You will take ownership of the end-to-end delivery of the Portfolio Management Improvement Project, working across business, project and executive stakeholder groups.

Key responsibilities will include:
  • Leading the delivery of the Portfolio Management Improvement project and driving successful project outcomes.
  • Developing and managing integrated schedules, milestones, priorities, dependencies and critical path activities.
  • Leading stakeholder engagement across business areas, project streams and executive stakeholders.
  • Developing and implementing improved Project Lifecycle, Governance & Assurance, and Portfolio Prioritisation frameworks.
  • Leading business-led change projects from initiation through to delivery and evaluation.
  • Developing project briefs, delivery plans, governance artefacts, schedules and executive reporting.
  • Managing multidisciplinary project teams and coordinating resources across planning, delivery and evaluation.
  • Identifying and managing risks, issues, dependencies and change impacts.
  • Providing clear and concise status reporting, executive updates and decision-making information.
  • Supporting program-level governance, assurance and reporting requirements.
  • Championing change management and continuous improvement practices.
  • Helping uplift project management capability and maturity across the broader organisation.
About You
We are looking for a highly capable Project Manager who can operate comfortably within complex, multi-stakeholder environments and bring structure, clarity and momentum to projects where there may not always be a clearly defined path forward.
You will ideally bring:
  • Strong experience managing complex projects involving integrated schedules, resources, risks, issues, dependencies and governance.
  • Proven ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams and manage competing priorities.
  • Highly developed stakeholder engagement, communication, negotiation and relationship management skills.
  • The ability to influence senior stakeholders and build trust without relying on formal authority.
  • Strong analytical, organisational and problem-solving capability.
  • Experience delivering business change, organisational improvement or transformation projects in complex environments.
  • A collaborative leadership style with a strong focus on accountability and delivery.
  • Experience developing or improving project management, governance, policy or organisational frameworks.
  • Experience working with project and workflow management systems within the Microsoft environment.

This opportunity would suit a Project Manager who understands the realities of managing complex portfolios and can work across governance, planning, delivery and stakeholder management — rather than someone whose background is primarily technology implementation.

Relevant qualifications in project management, PRINCE2, Agile or other project management certifications.

Why This Opportunity?
This is an opportunity to work on a high-profile portfolio improvement initiative with genuine organisational impact.
You will have the opportunity to:
  • Influence how a major infrastructure portfolio is planned and governed.
  • Establish frameworks and processes that will improve project delivery capability.
  • Work directly with senior business and executive stakeholders.
  • Lead a multidisciplinary project in a complex Queensland Government environment.
  • Make a tangible contribution to organisational maturity, governance and portfolio performance.
If you are an experienced Project Manager who enjoys improving the way organisations deliver projects, rather than simply implementing technology, this could be an excellent opportunity. please reach out Kris at [email protected]
