At HDR, our employee‑ownership model shapes everything we do, including how we support and care for our people. Our diverse service lines, including Water, Architecture, Building Engineering Services, Field Services, Power, Waste, Industrial, and Transportation reflect our commitment to shaping resilient, sustainable, and forward‑thinking communities around the world. Across these disciplines, our teams design and deliver solutions that safeguard public health, enhance quality of life, power innovation, and drive responsible growth. Whether advancing clean water, creating healing and learning environments, engineering next‑generation facilities, or building the infrastructure that moves people and energy, our work is rooted in technical excellence and a shared sense of purpose. Our employee‑owners collaborate across specialties, combining creativity, precision, and deep expertise to solve the most complex challenges facing our clients and communities.

Why This Role Matters
Across the company, we all rely on data to plan work, deliver projects, answer questions, and make decisions. But when data is defined differently from team to team, project to project, or region to region, it becomes harder to trust, harder to reuse, and harder to scale. People spend time reconciling definitions, rebuilding datasets, or explaining what something really means instead of using the data to drive decisions that move work forward. Data Stewardship helps fix this at the source.

By clearly defining what our data means, and by creating shared understanding of data for our delivery teams, this role will support turning our data into solutions that our business group and employees can confidently use, reuse, and build upon. Your goal will be to reduce confusion, prevent rework, and make it easier for teams to answer questions for their projects and pursuits without needing to start from scratch every time.

For project teams, this will result in less time cleaning up data and more time delivering. For technical staff, it means clearer expectations and fewer one off requests. For leaders, it means faster, more consistent answers and greater confidence in the insights they rely on. For HDR, it means enterprise data that is ready to support analytics, automation, and AI in a way that reflects how we work.

HDR is seeking a strategic-minded Resources Business Group Data Steward to shape how our data is defined, used, and reused across a Business Group and HDR. This position is about making data simpler, more useful, and more connected to the way we do business, today and in the future.

We’re looking for the Resources Business Group Data Steward to help bring clarity and consistency to how data is defined, shared, and used across all Business Classes and Practices within the Business Group and throughout HDR. This is a leadership position; not an IT or compliance position, and it plays a key part in enabling better decisions, reuse, and delivery excellence.

This role directly reports to the Resources Business Group Technology Director with a dashed reporting line to the Resources Business Group Digital Design Lead. In addition, the RBG Data Steward will work in close partnership with HDR Data Operations and the HDR Technology Leadership Team.

Who you are
This role is ideal for technical leaders who already help shape “how work gets done” and are ready to extend that influence to how data supports our business. This role exists to empower our teams to define data once, understand it the same way, and reuse it confidently across projects, teams, and time.

You are passionate about being a strategic, comprehensive solutions provider and you embrace the transformational changes of the power, waste, and industrial industries. You recognize that change management, organizational change, developing best practice, and implementing broad impact strategies are challenging and require perseverance but pay big dividends and mean a rewarding career.

You are a driver who makes things happen. You’re an ‘ideas’ person with high levels of emotional intelligence which helps you gain greater insight into organizational needs and leverage high performance technical teams to achieve goals.

You’re just as comfortable having an in-depth one-on-one discussion as you are presenting in the boardroom or making a technical presentation in a crowded convention center. You are as dedicated to the success of our teams and co-workers as you are your own.

Things don’t ‘sit’ with you – you have a natural fire within yourself to keep things moving and to keep others focused on the goals of our team in a respectful, professional manner. You are a difference maker.

Primary Responsibilities
The primary responsibilities of this position include\:

  • Work as the RBG data point of contact and leverage SME expertise from our Business Classes and Practices.
  • Develop and maintain specific data glossary(ies) for key engineering and technical terms with business context.
  • Use your technical network to build alignment and consensus around data processes, priority, and expected use.
  • Promote consistent, responsible use of technical data, including access, data quality, best practice for format, and reuse.
  • Support governance of externally sourced datasets (access, approvals, inventory awareness, storage, and lifecycle considerations).
  • Work with Enterprise Data Operations to help lead a RBG SME network to align practices and share lessons learned across our business classes and practices.
  • Promote data fluency across the RBG.
  • Regularly communicate and collaborate with other BG Data Stewards, BG and Enterprise Data Science Teams, and Enterprise Data Operations staff.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years of strategic leadership experience focused on growing, developing, and leading teams in change management and business data.
  • Minimum 15 years of overall experience providing diverse data-focused solutions and services to an organization and the industry.
  • Experience within the architecture, engineering, and construction industry.
  • Previous experience in the power, industrial and/ or waste sectors is a plus.
