Senior Backend Engineer
Design, build, and maintain scalable backend systems, high-performance APIs, database architecture, caching, and reliability systems powering Blockworks' research and media products.
Responsibilities
- Architect, build, and ship backend systems that scale to millions of requests per day.
- Design, implement, and optimize APIs for research and media products.
- Own MySQL and PostgreSQL database design, optimization, and reliability.
- Implement caching and performance strategies with Redis or similar tools.
- Lead backend feature development from planning through production release.
- Diagnose and resolve scalability, performance, and reliability issues.
- Improve testing, monitoring, and observability across the stack.
- Collaborate with frontend, product, and data teams on integrations.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- At least 5 years of professional backend engineering experience using TypeScript and Node.js.
- Experience building reliable APIs handling over 1 million requests per day.
- Proficiency with MySQL and PostgreSQL data modeling and query optimization.
- Experience implementing Redis or similar caching technologies.
- Familiarity with DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and deployment tools.
- Strong troubleshooting, collaboration, and clean-code skills.
- NestJS and TypeORM experience preferred.
- PHP migration experience, AWS familiarity, ML/AI exposure, and crypto experience are pluses.
