Senior Data Engineer

Summary

Senior Data Engineer owning the data platform, pipelines, orchestration and DataOps practices at a Finnish food company, using SQL, Python, dbt and Terraform in a modern cloud environment.

We are now looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join our expert team and take technical ownership of the development of our data platform, infrastructure, DataOps practices and the implementation of data pipelines.

In this role, you will combine platform engineering, data integrations and DataOps ways of working. You will be responsible for the performance, reliability and developer experience of the data platform, ensuring that it seamlessly supports the business needs for analytics, reporting and artificial intelligence. You will have the opportunity to develop our data platform over the long term and modernize our existing environment, playing a key role in moving Snellman toward a truly data-driven organization.

Jobdescription

  • You develop and productionize the data platform: You translate business needs and objectives into concrete development initiatives for the data platform. As an expert, you do not only develop the platform — you also roll up your sleeves and actively use it to deliver high-quality data solutions.

  • You implement orchestration and data integrations. You build modern data integrations and their orchestration: you create the tools and operating models that enable data to flow reliably to the data platform and from there ultimately into business use.

  • You carry out business-driven data modelling: You are responsible for refining data and implementing data models, such as star schemas and slowly changing dimensions, with dbt. You transform raw data into a business-ready format by applying best practices in data management and data quality assurance.

  • You developDataOpsand platform practices: You help create and implement best development practices that ensure quality, sustainability, automation and an excellent developer experience in data work.

  • You are responsible for technical quality and platform standards: You maintain the data teams high-quality ways of working and support code reviews (PRs) to ensure that your teammates and our partners achieve the agreed quality targets.

What we expect from you

You are an experienced data professional and have built your expertise in a Data Engineer, Data Platform Engineer or DataOps Engineer role. You have both the ability to solve complex platform-related challenges and integrate new technology into the current environment, as well as a genuine willingness to share your expertise with the team.

Your work combines strong technical expertise, careful documentation and a high awareness of quality. Your working style is systematic, and you see things through to completion down to the last detail.

The following skills are required in the role, but you do not need to know everything in advance!

  • Strong evidence of building layered ELT data pipelines and data modelling in a production environment.

  • Experience with a modern way of working in which data integrations and orchestration are primarily implemented and managed as code.

  • Strong command of programming and query languages (SQL, dbt, Python).

  • Familiarity with modern software development practices: Git, CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code, such as Terraform.

  • Understanding of how modern cloud platforms are used and developed.

  • Fluent Finnish or Swedish skills as well as English language skills.

  • Previous experience with the data needs of manufacturing industry or process business is considered an advantage.
