Senior specialist developing data and open data governance frameworks, conducting Privacy Impact Assessments, and producing governance artefacts within a Queensland Government department. Partners with stakeholders to manage privacy risk and enhance governance maturity.

An opportunity is available for an experienced Senior Data Governance & Privacy Specialist to support the development of trusted, well-managed and responsibly used data practices within a Queensland Government environment. This delivery-focused role combines data governance, open data governance and privacy expertise, with a strong emphasis on practical outcomes, stakeholder engagement and policy-aligned governance artefacts. You will work closely with information owners, system owners and subject matter experts to enhance governance maturity and support compliance with relevant legislation and policy requirements.


What you'll be doing:
  • Lead the development of data and open data governance frameworks, policies and procedures.
  • Create governance artefacts including standards, controls, templates and supporting materials.
  • Conduct Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) for priority information assets.
  • Identify privacy risks, treatment actions and practical recommendations.
  • Partner with stakeholders to understand information assets and business requirements.
  • Prepare executive briefings, decision papers and governance updates.
  • Manage multiple deliverables while communicating risks, dependencies and progress.
  • Develop knowledge content, guidance materials and handover resources to support ongoing governance capability.

What you need to bring:
  • Experience developing data and open data governance frameworks, policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting Privacy Impact Assessments and privacy risk documentation.
  • Strong understanding of data governance, information governance, records management, risk and assurance principles.
  • Ability to engage effectively with information owners, SMEs and governance stakeholders.
  • Excellent written communication skills with the ability to produce practical governance artefacts.
  • Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality outcomes.
  • Experience working within a Queensland Government or broader public sector environment.

Bonus points for:
  • Experience applying Queensland Government policy, directives and legislation relating to data governance and privacy.
  • Knowledge of QGEA, Information Privacy Act 2009 (Qld), IS18 and IS33.
  • Experience producing executive briefs and practical guidance resources.
  • Strong capability translating business requirements into governance and privacy artefacts.
