Senior Data Scientist

Join Chainalysis's Research and Intelligence organisation in London to develop behavioral heuristics, graph algorithms, and machine learning techniques for blockchain analysis. The role focuses on technically challenging, ambiguous data science problems and end-to-end project ownership.

Responsibilities

• Own production data science projects from broad problem statement through credible analytical results.
• Design, develop, and validate behavioral heuristics and algorithms over EVM and other blockchain data.
• Apply graph computation, statistical modeling, and machine learning to large-scale on-chain datasets.
• Improve code, methodology, and workflows while integrating research into production data and tooling.
• Communicate methodology and results to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Mentor junior team members, contribute to technical hiring, and share knowledge.
• Collaborate with peers to bring research from prototype to production.

Requirements

• PhD in computer science, machine learning, statistics, physics, mathematics, or a related technical field, or equivalent industry experience.
• Expert-level Python and SQL proficiency with experience writing clean, testable, production-quality code.
• Experience applying graph algorithms, machine learning, statistical inference, or similar techniques to large, messy datasets.
• Comfort with EVM-based blockchain data structures and protocols, or strong aptitude to learn them quickly.
• Ability to take ownership, decompose requirements, drive projects to completion, and seek stakeholder clarity.
• Analytical, open-minded problem-solving approach and comfort navigating ambiguity.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Familiarity with Databricks, DBT, Spark, or PySpark is preferred.
• Experience with infrastructure-as-code or production data pipelines is preferred.
• Experience mentoring junior data scientists or engineers is preferred.
• Knowledge of or passion for cryptocurrency and blockchain is preferred.
