Senior Electrical Design Engineer
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design development of electrical building services systems, including HV/LV power distribution, substations, transformers, standby generation, switchgear, cable containment/routing, lighting, small power, earthing, and lightning protection.
- Prepare and review electrical design calculations, load schedules, single-line diagrams (SLDs), cable sizing, protection coordination/discrimination studies, and voltage drop calculations.
- Produce and check design drawings and specifications using AutoCAD/Revit MEP (BIM), ensuring compliance with SS 638 (Code of Practice for Electrical Installations), SS 531, Singapore Standards, BCA, EMA, SCDF, and other relevant statutory and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate with architects, C&S engineers, mechanical/ACMV engineers, and other M&E disciplines to ensure clash-free, buildable, and coordinated designs.
- Review and respond to tender and contract drawings, specifications, and Bills of Quantities for electrical scope; support tendering and cost estimation as needed.
- Liaise with authorities (e.g. SP PowerGrid/EMA, SCDF, BCA) for submissions, approvals, and licensing of electrical installations.
- Provide technical support during construction, including reviewing shop drawings, method statements, and material submissions from subcontractors/vendors.
- Conduct site inspections, testing, and commissioning oversight to ensure installed works conform to design intent and applicable codes.
- Investigate and resolve technical issues arising on site, proposing practical and cost-effective design solutions.
- Mentor and guide junior/graduate electrical engineers and draughtsmen, reviewing their output for technical accuracy.
- Keep up to date with new technologies, energy-efficient design practices, and evolving regulatory requirements (e.g. Green Mark, sustainability standards).
- Support project handover documentation, including as-built drawings, O&M manuals, and testing/commissioning records.

- Proven track record on major building, infrastructure, or MRT/rail-related projects in Singapore is highly preferred.
- Experience working with LTA, BCA, EMA, and SCDF submission processes.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong technical knowledge of electrical distribution systems, HV/LV switchgear, protection systems, standby power (generators/UPS), and lighting design.
- Proficient in AutoCAD; working knowledge of Revit MEP/BIM workflows is highly advantageous.
- Familiar with relevant Singapore Standards (SS 638, SS CP5, SS 531) and international standards (IEC/BS) as applicable.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and design-coordination skills.
- Good written and verbal communication skills; able to liaise confidently with consultants, authorities, and clients.
- Leadership ability to guide a design team and manage multiple concurrent project deliverables.
- Detail-oriented, organised, and able to work to project deadlines.
