Senior FullStack Java Developer | Global Insurer | 12 Month Fixed Term Contract

Salary: AUD 150000 - 170000 per annum

We're seeking an experienced engineer to join a major enterprise transformation program, developing the next generation of applications that support critical insurance underwriting operations.

Rather than simply delivering tickets, you'll immerse yourself in the business, gaining a deep understanding of underwriting processes and helping shape technology that delivers meaningful outcomes.

The Opportunity
You'll be responsible for developing and enhancing an internal Underwriter Portal and a suite of supporting applications that are transforming the way underwriters & risk managers access and use information. You'll also play a key role in consolidating data from multiple legacy platforms into a modern global data hub, enabling new digital capabilities across the organisation. Working alongside product owners, business stakeholders and fellow engineers, you'll help design scalable, modern solutions that have a direct impact on the business.

What You'll Be Doing

• Designing and developing enterprise Java applications
  
  
• Building scalable microservices using Spring Boot
  
  
• Developing modern front-end functionality using Angular (React also considered)
  
  
• Building event-driven solutions with Kafka
  
  
• Deploying applications into Kubernetes environments
  
  
• Integrating data from multiple enterprise platforms
  
  
• Collaborating directly with underwriting teams to understand business workflows
  
  
• Influencing technical design and architectural decisions
  
  
• Mentoring developers and promoting engineering best practice
  
  

Skills You'll bring:

• Extensive commercial Java development experience
  
  
• Strong Spring Boot and microservices expertise
  
  
• Experience with Kafka and event-driven architectures
  
  
• Kubernetes experience
  
  
• Angular or React experience
  
  
• Agentic AI experience (Anthropic/Claude Preferred)
  
  
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  
  
• Experience mentoring developers or leading technical initiatives
  
  
• A passion for delivering high-quality, maintainable software
