Akvelon is an IT company with 20+ years of experience and 1,200+ engineers across 15+ locations worldwide. We work with both well-known global tech companies, including Microsoft, Facebook, Airbnb, Dropbox, and Pinterest, and with growing startups.
Our teams are involved in different types of engineering projects, from cloud solutions and AI/ML systems to big data, web, and mobile applications.
Since we are remote-first, our engineers work in distributed teams with flexible hours. We value ownership, clear communication, and the ability to take responsibility for your part of the work.
About the project
The project is a closed-loop wellness platform: a member mobile app, an advisor operations console, and a back office, on top of a deterministic scoring engine, a rules engine, and an integration layer. The central challenge is integration: consolidating around a dozen production systems (EMR, wearables, labs, billing, messaging) into one experience while handling Protected Health Information (PHI) end to end.
We start with a discovery phase and move into delivery, aiming for a limited pilot with a small cohort of members, with further phases planned afterward. The delivery team includes a Product Owner, Tech Lead, Mobile Engineer, two Backend/Integration Engineers, two Web Frontend Engineers, and a UI/UX Designer. You are the product-definition owner: you turn business vision, practitioner expertise, and evolving requirements into a prioritized, testable backlog, and you keep product decisions moving without the client having to run day-to-day product ownership.
Requirements
- 6+ years in product ownership or business analysis, including 3+ years owning discovery, backlog definition, and delivery prioritization
- Strong product discovery and requirements elicitation: process mapping, epics and user stories, acceptance criteria, prioritization, and stakeholder facilitation in ambiguous environments
- End-to-end backlog ownership: refinement cadence, sprint scope, and sign-off of sprint deliverables against acceptance criteria
- Hands-on experience with AI-assisted, spec-driven product workflows: using them to produce requirements, specifications, and backlog artifacts, with human-in-the-loop review and final product decisions staying with you
- Proven work with non-technical SMEs, converting domain language into implementation-ready requirements without inventing clinical or business rules
- Comfortable owning day-to-day product decisions and defending trade-offs, rather than waiting for a fully written brief
- Ability to define measurable success criteria (engagement, retention, workflow efficiency) and make sure telemetry and acceptance criteria support validation
- Close partnership with a senior technical team on data mapping, integration feasibility, and technical constraints
- Strong ownership: documented decisions, visible dependencies, early escalation of scope and risk
- English C1 preferred, comfortable client-facing; meaningful overlap with US business hours
- Full-time availability, dedicated to this engagement
Nice to have
- Healthcare, wellness, or other regulated and high-trust products where consent, PHI/PII boundaries, and auditability shape requirements
- Integration-heavy products spanning multiple production source systems, with canonical data ownership questions
- Defining pilot validation for a small cohort, where success is daily engagement and retention rather than feature completion
- Roles, permissions, and consent modeling for operational products
- Turnkey engagements with knowledge transfer and joint-maintenance handoffs
Responsibilities
- Lead product discovery and backlog refinement with client leadership and three practitioner SMEs; translate goals, pain points, and workflows into epics, stories, acceptance criteria, and decision-ready trade-offs
- Own the product cutline across the member app, operations console, back office, scoring/rules engine, and integrations; separate pilot-critical scope from later phases
- Map current-state and target workflows, business rules, data meaning, edge cases, roles and permissions, and dependencies; partner with the Tech Lead and engineers on data mapping and integration feasibility
- Own day-to-day product decisions and sign off sprint deliverables against acceptance criteria
- Establish and own AI-assisted, spec-driven product workflows with human-in-the-loop review, aligned with engineering execution
- Define measurable pilot success criteria around daily engagement and habit formation, retention signals, and practitioner workflow effectiveness
- Run a lightweight client decision cadence focused on feature review, unresolved business questions, demos, and acceptance
- Keep the decision log, dependency map, and product risks current, and align stakeholders when scope shifts
