Senior Software Engineer, Backend

Build and maintain reliable, scalable backend systems and services for TRM customers and internal teams. Design performant backend and public APIs, collaborate with stakeholders on roadmaps and outcomes, lead projects as a technical anchor, support internal business units, participate in sprints and on-call rotations, evaluate implementation options through time-boxed spikes, communicate clearly, and apply AI tools to accelerate work.

Responsibilities

• Build reliable and scalable backend systems
• Design backend APIs with a focus on customer experience and performance
• Develop and maintain public APIs
• Support internal business units through shared engineering services
• Collaborate with stakeholders to translate product vision into roadmaps and outcomes
• Lead projects as a technical anchor
• Participate in weekly sprint cycles
• Rotate on-call to triage internal tools issues
• Perform time-boxed spikes to evaluate implementation options
• Communicate complex ideas to technical and non-technical audiences

Requirements

• Experience designing and building scalable systems, web applications, APIs, and services
• Understanding of relational and analytical databases, including Postgres
• Experience understanding customer pain points and translating them into technical and product requirements
• High degree of initiative and ownership with ability to navigate ambiguity
• Ability to structure problems and prioritize critical issues
• Effective verbal and written communication skills
• Experience working collaboratively in a cross-functional environment
