Senior Software Engineer Data Infrastructure RDBMS
Design and maintain petabyte-scale, high-performance databases and data models; build and optimize batch and streaming data pipelines; tune complex SQL queries; own infrastructure initiatives; create self-serve automation; and deliver observable, reliable data workflows.
Responsibilities
- Design and maintain petabyte-scale high-performance databases and data models.
- Build and optimize production batch and streaming data pipelines.
- Diagnose, explain, and tune complex SQL queries under heavy load.
- Own query optimization, index strategy, storage optimization, and system resilience initiatives.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to deliver reliable end-to-end data workflows.
- Create self-serve automation for provisioning and scaling databases and clusters.
- Deliver fast, observable first versions and iterate based on stakeholder feedback.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in data engineering, analytics infrastructure, or backend systems with RDBMS depth.
- Experience with database security, access control, encryption, and compliance frameworks.
- Production-scale expertise with Postgres, MySQL, or SQL Server.
- Strong SQL reasoning and query debugging, explanation, and optimization skills.
- Experience designing normalized and denormalized data models.
- Familiarity with Airflow, DBT, or custom orchestration frameworks.
- Systems thinking and an ownership mindset for ambiguous cross-functional problems.
