Senior Software Engineer II Backend Rust

Own the onboarding identity and verification surface end to end by building Rust services and integrations, implementing testable verification and decision logic, delivering outcomes asynchronously, protecting sensitive data, supporting new jurisdictions through policy and configuration, operating reliable cloud services, leading technical reviews, and mentoring engineers.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain Rust services and crates for account creation, identity verification, and KYC/CIP decisioning.
• Build identity, fraud, and screening provider integrations.
• Implement pure, table-tested determination functions.
• Design asynchronous delivery with idempotency, retry, resumption, and completion controls.
• Protect PII and identity documents through redaction, encryption, secret management, and audit logging.
• Express market and product differences through policy and configuration.
• Operate services with instrumentation, structured logging, alerting, and incident response.
• Design scalable service architecture using Google Cloud Platform and Kubernetes.
• Lead Rust design reviews and mentor internal engineers.

Requirements

• 6+ years of professional software development experience including substantial production Rust.
• Strong command of Rust ownership, lifetimes, error modeling, trait design, async ecosystems, Tokio, Serde, and SQL layers such as Sqlx or Diesel.
• Experience writing pure functions, table-driven tests, fixture-based integration tests, and strict contract tests.
• Experience designing HTTP and event-driven service integrations with versioning and backward compatibility.
• Experience handling sensitive data with encryption, secret management, least-privilege access, and audit requirements.
• Demonstrated use and validation of AI coding agents such as Codex, Cursor, or Claude Code.
• Excellent communication and technical contract ownership skills.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience with identity verification, KYC, AML, CIP, fraud, risk decisioning, fintech, trading, brokerage, or crypto.
• Experience in a large Rust monorepo.
• Familiarity with policy-driven flow engines, gRPC, protobuf, and feature flagging platforms.
