Senior Software Engineer - Testing Tools & Strategy

In this role, you will analyze bug tickets, debug code, and identify the root cause of errors across the Shardeum platform. You will design, develop, and maintain test automation frameworks and reusable test scripts to validate core functionality. You will utilize cutting-edge AI tools to make testing faster and more efficient. You will also develop and execute load testing scripts, create comprehensive test coverage, and develop end-to-end (E2E) test cases for complex workflows. Furthermore, you will collaborate closely with development teams to integrate testing into CI/CD pipelines, build and maintain internal tools, troubleshoot complex automated testing failures, develop monitoring tools, and participate actively in agile ceremonies to drive testing best practices.

Responsibilities

• Analyze bug tickets, debug code, and identify root causes across the Shardeum platform.
• Design, develop, and maintain test automation frameworks and reusable scripts for nodes, consensus mechanisms, smart contracts, and blockchain transactions.
• Use AI tools to improve testing speed and efficiency.
• Develop and execute load testing scripts for high transaction loads and varying node configurations.
• Create functional, integration, system, and regression test coverage and identify performance bottlenecks.
• Develop end-to-end test cases for complex workflows involving consensus protocols and smart contracts.
• Integrate testing into CI/CD pipelines and troubleshoot dependency failures.
• Build internal tools to improve developer experience, productivity, and test efficiency.
• Troubleshoot complex automated testing failures and improve end-to-end reliability.
• Develop monitoring tools for blockchain-specific performance metrics and test results.
• Participate in agile ceremonies and drive testing best practices.
• Research and adopt innovative testing tools, frameworks, and methodologies.

Requirements

• 5+ years of software engineering experience focused on testing.
• Proficiency in TypeScript or JavaScript and Node.js for developing reusable test scripts.
• Ability or desire to write unit tests in TypeScript, JavaScript, and Node.js.
• Experience analyzing complex codebases, troubleshooting multi-tier web architecture issues, and identifying failure root causes.
• Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD workflows such as GitHub Actions or Jenkins.
• Expertise defining release, regression, and smoke testing strategies for large multi-team applications.
• Experience with white-box testing methodologies.
• Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills for blockchain-specific issues.
• Curiosity and a tester mindset with the ability to design innovative test scenarios.
• Creativity in applying testing tools and frameworks and developing new solutions.
• Knowledge of Agile, Scrum, and the software development lifecycle.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience testing dApps, consensus protocols, or blockchain platforms.
• Experience running blockchain nodes and monitoring performance metrics.
• Familiarity with Web3.js, Hardhat, or Truffle.
• Hands-on experience with AI coding tools such as Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Windsurf, or Cline.
• Contributions to open-source testing, automation, or blockchain projects.
• Experience using or contributing to Shardeum open-source repositories.
• Familiarity with blockchain performance benchmarks and profiling tools.
• Knowledge of the Bitcoin and Ethereum whitepapers.
