Software Developer, Back End (6 months contract, Singapore based)
Summary
Six-month contract backend developer supporting Agoda's Supply organization, working on supplier integrations, internal tools, and supporting services. Day-to-day work spans Java/Kotlin/Scala/C#/.NET backend and API development, CI/CD pipeline support, monitoring/logging, and cross-functional collaboration in an Agile environment.
About the role
Agoda is looking for a Singapore-based Contract Software Engineer to support the development and improvement of systems used by Agoda’s Supply organisation. The contractor will work with the relevant engineering team to deliver well-scoped improvements across Supply platforms, supplier integrations, internal tools, and supporting services.
This is a fixed-term role focused on practical engineering delivery, system improvements, testing, operational quality, and documentation.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and maintain backend or full-stack features for Supply platforms and supplier-integration systems.
- Improve existing services through code modernisation, dependency upgrades, and adherence to engineering standards.
- Implement small-to-medium enhancements and resolve defects within an agreed scope.
- Write unit, integration, and regression tests to improve system quality.
- Support CI/CD pipelines and improve development and deployment workflows.
- Add or improve monitoring, logging, metrics, and operational dashboards.
- Collaborate with permanent engineers, product managers, and other stakeholders to clarify requirements and deliver solutions.
- Participate in sprint planning, stand-ups, retrospectives, and other team activities.
- Investigate technical issues and support root-cause analysis where required.
- Produce clear documentation for implemented changes, technical decisions, and operational procedures.
- Follow Agoda’s security, reliability, coding, and documentation standards.
Required qualifications
- Professional experience in software development, or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience with at least one relevant programming language, such as:JavaKotlinScalaC#/.NET
- Experience developing backend services, APIs, or full-stack applications.
- Familiarity with Git and standard software-development practices.
- Ability to write maintainable, tested, and documented code.
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively with a distributed and cross-functional team.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with PostgreSQL or another relational database.
- Familiarity with Docker and containerised development.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines.
- Familiarity with monitoring, logging, and production-support practices.
- Experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment.
