Software Engineer III, Mobile (Android), Web and Tablets
Summary
Develop new features for Google Messages for Web (the desktop companion web app for Android), integrating with the Android app and backend systems. Works on an end-to-end feature team within Platforms and Devices, collaborating with UX designers and product managers on the web-based multi-device messaging experience.
In this role, you will be part of a highly collaborative team to bring the best texting experience to desktops and tablets, for anyone with an Android phone. You will be directly involved in User Experience (UX) and product decisions, not just implementing what is specified.
Being an end-to-end feature team for the web-based multi-device experience for Google Messages, this position also provides a unique opportunity to explore beyond web or Android development.

- Develop new features for Google Messages for Web (messages.google.com/web), which is the desktop companion web app for Google Messages.
- Integrate features with backend systems and interface with the Google Messages app on Android.
- Work with UX designers and product managers to refine requirements for the feature, as well as fellow Software Engineers to determine the right architecture.
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 2 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages, or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree.
- 2 years of experience with android application development.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience with Kotlin, Android app, and web development.
- Experience in debugging Android apps including network traffic.
- Experience with web front-end development and Angular framework.
- Experience debugging web apps, JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML, and style sheets.
- Familiarity with web standards, browsers, and front-end best practices.
- Familiarity with Java, back-end services.
