The Business Services Business Analyst (BA) will support daily operations of North American (NA) Payroll, and contribute to projects and initiatives that align with the company’s broader business goals. The BA will collaborate closely with their manager and coordinate activities with other business areas as needed. This role is crucial to the organization as it supports business and system processes for employee onboarding through payroll processing, which is the foundation of our billing cycle, driving over 95% of the company’s revenue.

This role supports US and Canada payroll for 100K weekly paid employees, with multiple payroll runs each week, as well as bi-weekly payroll for 5K Randstad internal associates. It covers various lines of business across different industries, including engineering, light industrial, professional and healthcare, as well as government contracts and FLSA classifications. All functions, from time capture to pay distribution, are handled in-house by department personnel.

Production Support Business Analyst

The Production Support Business Analyst optimizes and supports our end-to-end payroll processes within the dynamic staffing industry, bridging the gap between business operations, payroll processing, and system technologies. In this role, you will lead process improvement initiatives, conduct rigorous payroll audits, drive User Acceptance Testing (UAT) across integrated platforms, and deliver high-level support to internal teams and external clients. Additionally, you will champion automation and optimization using SQL and AI technology—managing inquiries from initial assessment through delivery and documentation while strictly adhering to organizational governance, policies, and procedures.

Daily Operations: Provide support to our internal and external customers via various support channels.

● Provide system support including setup, configuration, and maintenance

● Resolve issues and inquiries related to varying subjects, including, but not limited to; onboarding, time entry, payroll, and from internal customers and agencies.

● Conduct daily audits to ensure processes and compliance requirements are fully met.

● Partner with functional and technical teams on system upgrades and fixes, and conduct or assist with User Acceptance Testing to ensure the business requirements are met

● Develop and/or update functional process documentation as needed

Research, Reconciliation, Problem Identification, and Resolution - Collaborate with team members and other departments to address moderately complex operational issues and discrepancies. This involves conducting research and gaining a thorough understanding of the operating companies and customer accounts the BA supports. Ensure systems and processes comply with customer contracts and are managed appropriately.

● Promptly investigate, identify and report potential database issues

● Develop, oversee and deliver reports for operational analysis, trend monitoring , audits and special projects

Customer Support - Build and maintain strong relationships with key customer contacts and internal departments. Effectively manage conflicts with empathy, demonstrating a commitment to customer satisfaction, collaboration, and a passion for Randstad’s business.

● Serve as a support to Subject Matter Expert (SME) for key enterprise initiatives and act as a liaison across multiple departments, including Benefits, Compensation, HR, Talent Relations, Treasury, Accounting, IT, and others.

● Consistently provide timely updates to SME, customers, stakeholders, and management on ongoing tasks and projects.

● Identify opportunities to improve processes, functionality, and workflows by leveraging technical capabilities to minimize manual tasks and improve data management and overall efficiency

● Proactively support team and internal customer development initiatives by creating and/or following established training materials that ensure the team is versed in best practices for departmental processes, including compliance, regulatory standards, contractual obligations, and system usage.

Qualifications & Industry Knowledge

● Education: Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, computer science, or math (preferred).

● Certifications: CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) or FPC (Fundamental Payroll Certification) preferred.

● Domain Expertise: Comprehensive understanding of the payroll lifecycle (gross-to-net, pre/post-tax deductions, year-end filings) and FLSA regulations (overtime, state-specific sick leave, nexus rules).

● Systems Proficiency: Intermediate Excel (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPs), SQL, Google Suite, and familiarity with payroll/ATS systems (e.g., PeopleSoft, Bullhorn, Workday, Salesforce).

Problem Solving & Analytics

● Root Cause Analysis: Ability to go beyond "patching" issues by using the "5 Whys" to identify core causes of payroll errors.

● Logical Reasoning: Skilled at deconstructing complex, abstract problems and issues into clear, manageable parts.

● Data-Driven: Proficiency in validation queries, reporting, and using data to provide insights for business operations and customer accounts.

● Process Optimization: Drive to reduce waste, automate manual tasks, and create "Standard Work" documentation (SWP articles) to ensure consistent quality.

● Quality & Testing: Strong experience with internal audit methodologies and managing end-to-end User Acceptance Testing (UAT) with structured feedback.

● Prioritization: Ability to organize high-volume tasks effectively, managing queues based on Impact vs. Urgency (e.g., "system down" vs. routine profile updates).
