Staff Platform Engineer
Design, build, and evolve platform services, infrastructure, and internal tooling; own complex systems; improve observability and CI coverage; maintain AI-enabled engineering tools; partner with product teams; and ship reliable software using modern development tools.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and evolve platform services, infrastructure, and internal tooling that power OpenSea's products
- Own complex technical systems from definition through implementation, balancing scalability, reliability, maintainability, and developer experience
- Provide observability, monitoring, and alerting across systems
- Maintain and improve AI skills and tools
- Accelerate and expand CI coverage
- Partner with product teams to accelerate product builds and deployments
- Build and ship reliable software using AI and modern development tools
Requirements
- 7+ years of software engineering experience building large-scale backend or platform systems
- Fluency in JVM languages such as Kotlin or Java
- Experience designing and operating distributed systems, backend services, and modern cloud infrastructure
- Understanding of platform engineering principles, developer tooling, CI/CD, observability, and operational best practices
- Ability to own complex and ambiguous technical problems
- Ability to make independent technical decisions balancing reliability, scalability, performance, and maintainability
- Experience leveraging AI tools and workflows for engineering
- Passion for Web3, digital ownership, AI, or emerging technologies
