Staff Software Engineer on Google's Cloud Backup and Disaster Recovery team, designing and building software for a managed SaaS platform that protects GCP workloads (Compute Engine, Persistent Disks, Cloud SQL, AlloyDB, Filestore) via immutable backup vaults, cross-region recovery, and AI-driven features.
Google Cloud Backup and Disaster Recovery (GCBDR) is a centralized, secure, and fully-managed service designed to protect mission-critical workloads across the Google Cloud ecosystem. The service safeguards enterprise data against ransomware, accidental deletion, and outages by delivering automated protection for first-party (1P) Google Cloud Platform (GCP) resources including Google Compute Engine (GCE), Persistent Disks (PD), Cloud SQL, AlloyDB, and Filestore. Powered by backup vaults, the service provides immutable, tamper-proof backup storage. In the event of a disaster, GCBDR facilitates rapid, centralized cross-region recovery to ensure business continuity.
The team is rapidly scaling this native SaaS platform, driving deeper integrations across the GCP portfolio, while also working on differentiated value added services like searchable backups, malware detection, data insights and disaster recovery, leading industry innovation by leveraging Google’s leadership in AI.

- Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and improve software components for the Cloud Backup and DR platform.
- Deliver high-quality, end-to-end features and project components mostly independently, managing your own task priorities and timelines.
- Participate in system design discussions, write clear technical documentation, and collaborate with executive engineers to refine component architectures.
- Identify and resolve technical debts, helping to improve system scalability, reliability monitoring, and testing coverage.
- Work collaboratively with adjacent engineers and cross-functional partners to resolve dependencies and align on integration goals.
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a similar technical field of study, or equivalent practical experience.
- 8 years of experience in product development.
- Experience in software development using a general purpose programming language (e.g., Java, JavaScript).
- Experience architecting and developing distributed systems design.
Preferred qualifications:
- Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
- Experience leading teams of software engineers.
- Experience defining technical charters and engineering processes for geographically distributed teams.
