Teaching Aide – Science and School Support

The school is expected to relocate to a new campus at Tengah Garden Walk in 2028. The appointed candidate may be required to work at the new campus if the contract extension is exercised.

Contract Period

Base Contract: 14 September 2026, or the date of appointment, whichever is later, to 31 December 2027

Option Period: An option to extend the contract for up to one additional year, subject to the school’s requirements and approval.

Working Hours

  • Monday to Friday: 7:30 am to 3:30 pm

  • Includes a one-hour unpaid lunch break

  • Seven paid working hours per day

  • Service is not required on Saturdays, Sundays and gazetted public holidays

  • Service is generally not required during the June and December school holiday periods

Main Responsibilities

The Teaching Aide will provide operational, classroom, logistical and administrative support for Science lessons and activities. The candidate may also support the English, Mother Tongue Languages, Mathematics, Character and Citizenship Education, Co-Curricular Activities and Administration departments when required.

Science Resources Preparation

  • Prepare apparatus, materials and other resources for hands-on Science lessons.

  • Prepare resources for weighted assessments, Science competitions and enrichment activities.

  • Ensure that all prepared resource sets are complete, consistent and accurate.

  • Cut, laminate, label, sort and organise instructional materials.

  • Maintain an orderly system for storing and retrieving Science resources.

  • Organise and pack resources in the Science Laboratory and MakerSpace.

  • Assist with packing and preparing laboratory and MakerSpace resources for the school’s relocation.

Classroom and Lesson Support

  • Set up apparatus and learning materials before each Science lesson.

  • Ensure that all equipment and resources are ready for immediate classroom use.

  • Remain in the classroom during Science lessons to support the teacher.

  • Distribute, collect and account for apparatus and learning materials.

  • Monitor students’ safe and appropriate use of Science equipment.

  • Provide suitable assistance to students during hands-on activities.

  • Work closely with the Head of Department for Science and Science level representatives.

  • Communicate proactively regarding lesson schedules and resource requirements.

Programmes and Events Support

  • Provide logistical support for Science programmes, competitions and school events.

  • Set up and dismantle activity stations, displays and event materials.

  • Organise, store and account for resources after activities and events.

  • Assist teachers with resource management before, during and after programmes.

  • Prepare instructional materials and manipulatives for other departments.

  • Support departmental celebrations, enrichment activities and school events.

  • Set up and restore activity areas before and after programmes.

  • Provide on-site assistance during departmental activities.

Eco Makers Club Support

  • Assist with the daily maintenance and operation of the school’s food digester.

  • Support related activities conducted by the Eco Makers Club.

  • Ensure that the equipment and surrounding work area are maintained appropriately.

Administrative and Ad-Hoc Support

  • Provide relief coverage at the school library during recess when required.

  • Support the General Office with basic administrative duties.

  • Attend to incoming telephone calls and direct enquiries appropriately.

  • Assist with reception duties and attend to walk-in visitors.

  • Perform other reasonable duties according to the school’s operational requirements.

Requirements

  • Minimum Secondary School, GCE N-Level, GCE O-Level, GCE A-Level or an equivalent qualification.

  • Previous experience working in a primary school Science room, laboratory or similar educational environment is preferred.

  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Able to manage multiple responsibilities and changing priorities.

  • Organised and able to meet deadlines.

  • Able to work effectively as part of a team.

  • Comfortable interacting with primary school students, teachers and school staff.

  • Able to perform regular physical duties, including lifting, carrying, moving and setting up equipment and materials.

  • Pleasant, patient and service-oriented personality.

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Demonstrates integrity, responsibility, punctuality and a positive work attitude.

  • Adaptable and comfortable supporting different departments based on operational requirements.

Preferred Candidate Profile

The suitable candidate should be organised, hands-on and comfortable working in a busy school environment. The candidate must be able to prepare resources accurately, support students safely during practical activities and manage concurrent assignments across different departments and timelines.
