Technical Program Manager - Contract Logistics

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Product Design

Co-own the roadmap for Contract Logistics technology, covering WMS optimization, warehouse automation integration (conveyor systems, pick-to-light, RFID, robotics), labor management tools, inventory visibility, and order fulfillment automation. Conduct deep process shadowing and interviews with operations teams across Crane's facility network. Map current-state workflows from receiving through putaway, picking, packing, shipping, and returns; identify the highest[1]leverage automation and efficiency opportunities. Design future-state SOPs and workflows; build mockups and POCs to validate operational feasibility with facility teams before engineering investment.

Technical Design

Facilitate architecture and integration decisions connecting WMS platforms, warehouse automation hardware, labor management systems, and customer-facing inventory visibility tools, enabling the business to swap and integrate warehouse technology without rebuilding core flows. Partner with engineering to shape technical design for integrations between WMS and TMS/rating systems for accurate billing and customer visibility. Coordinate integrations with automation and IoT-enabled equipment where applicable, working with engineering leads who own component[1]level delivery. Champion automation initiatives for high-volume, repeatable warehouse tasks. Help ensure standard engineering patterns are followed across the warehouse technology stack; surface and help resolve cross-team capability gaps.

Success

(Execution and Measurement) Define operational KPIs: order cycle time, pick accuracy, labor productivity (picks-per-labor[1]hour), inventory accuracy, and cost-per-unit. Partner with facility management and labor planning teams for structured rollouts. Create meaningful measurement frameworks throughout the project lifecycle, with particular emphasis on instrumentation during rollouts to track adoption, impact, and operational improvements. Instrument experiments with analytics and data science; evaluate automation impact rigorously. Drive adoption of new warehouse tools through change management and floor-level enablement.

Cross-team Coordination

Build strong relationships with warehouse operations leadership across facilities and regions. Understand facility-specific constraints, labor models, customer SLAs, and equipment differences, and ensure platform flexibility to accommodate them. Serve as the primary voice of contract logistics within the TPM and engineering teams.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Cross-Functional Leadership & Technical Acumen:

Academic or practical experience with fundamentals of AI across modalities. Comfort reading and writing code and working with modern application ecosystems (HTTP APIs, messaging and queueing systems). Experience in agile or scrum environments. Comfort operating without deep vertical domain expertise in any single area, relying instead on structured discovery and strong stakeholder partnership.

Domain and Measurement Expertise:

Deep understanding of warehouse and fulfillment execution: receiving, putaway, picking, packing, shipping, and returns workflows. Experience with WMS platforms (e.g., Manhattan, SAP EWM, or similar) and warehouse automation technologies (conveyor, pick-to-light, RFID, robotics). Strong data orientation with ability to define and instrument labor and fulfillment KPIs from scratch. Proven track record of creating meaningful measurement frameworks, especially during product rollouts and organizational change initiatives. Communication and Organization:

Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate complex technical and operational concepts to diverse audiences, including senior stakeholders and floor-level operations teams. Strong analytical skills with solid experience writing functional and technical specifications (PRDs). Strong organization skills with excellent attention to detail. Proficiency with product management tools, diagramming tools (Visio, Miro), and collaboration platforms. Ability to drive short-term actions consistent with long-term strategic goals. Effective listening skills and stakeholder empathy, especially when navigating competing domain interests.

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business Administration, or related field.
  • 10+ years of technical program or product management experience with strong preference for warehouse operations, supply chain technology, or contract logistics. All TPM

Desirable:

  • Prior experience building applications as an engineer or product manager
  • Familiarity with WMS platforms (Manhattan, SAP EWM, or similar)
  • Experience with warehouse automation and robotics integration
  • EDI or API-based carrier and customer integrations
