Transportation Design Project Manager, PE

If you're an experienced roadway engineer looking for greater project ownership, leadership opportunities, and involvement in impactful transportation improvements, this role offers the chance to lead projects from planning through construction support across the Carolinas. You'll work on a diverse portfolio that includes highway widenings, intersections, interchanges, bicycle and pedestrian facilities, safety improvements, and design-build projects.

As a Roadway Design Project Manager, you'll help deliver transportation solutions that improve mobility, safety, and quality of life. You'll guide project teams, collaborate with clients and partners, and help develop the next generation of roadway engineers while driving high-quality project delivery.

  • Lead roadway design projects through planning, design, and construction support phases.
  • Manage project scope, schedule, budget, and technical quality.
  • Oversee development of plans, specifications, estimates, and engineering calculations.
  • Collaborate with clients, agency stakeholders, subconsultants, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Mentor and develop engineers and design staff.
  • Evaluate engineering alternatives and recommend practical solutions.
  • Support data collection, engineering investigations, and project planning efforts.
  • Ensure designs meet applicable agency and industry standards.
  • Bachelor of Science from an ABET-accredited university in Civil Engineering
  • North Carolina Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • 5 - 10 years of transportation roadway design experience
  • NCDOT roadway design experience (preferred)
  • Proficiency in MicroStation and GEOPAK. OpenRoads experience is a plus
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of AASHTO and State DOT design standards
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong sense of urgency and self-initiative to meet client deadlines
  • Detail-oriented team player with the ability to contribute to a positive work environment
