UI/UX Designer 8436 W
Summary
Own product design end-to-end across a wellness platform's three surfaces (member mobile app, advisor operations console, back office), building a reusable design system and partnering with React and React Native engineers on a high-trust PHI-handling product.

Akvelon is an IT company with 20+ years of experience and 1,200+ engineers across 15+ locations worldwide.
We work with both well-known global tech companies, including Microsoft, Facebook, Airbnb, Dropbox, and Pinterest, and with growing startups.
Our teams are involved in different types of engineering projects, from cloud solutions and AI/ML systems to big data, web, and mobile applications.
Since we are remote-first, our engineers work in distributed teams with flexible hours. We value ownership, clear communication, and the ability to take responsibility for your part of the work.
About the project
The project is a closed-loop wellness platform: a member mobile app, an advisor operations console, and a back office, on top of a deterministic scoring engine, a rules engine, and an integration layer. The central challenge is integration: consolidating around a dozen production systems (EMR, wearables, labs, billing, messaging) into one experience while handling Protected Health Information (PHI) end to end.
We start with a discovery phase and move into delivery, aiming for a limited pilot with a small cohort of members, with further phases planned afterward. The delivery team includes a Product Owner, Tech Lead, Mobile Engineer, two Backend/Integration Engineers, two Web Frontend Engineers, and a UI/UX Designer. You own product design across all three surfaces: you turn practitioner workflows and requirements into a coherent, accessible experience, and into a reusable design system with specifications that let engineering move quickly without losing clarity or trust.
Requirements
- 5+ years in product or UX design, hands-on rather than direction only
- Portfolio covering both mobile applications and complex operational or admin web products
- Strong end-to-end process: discovery, journey and workflow mapping, information architecture, interaction design, prototyping, usability validation, and engineering handoff
- Ability to model loading, stale-data, permission, conflict, empty, error, and escalation states rather than happy paths only
- Design-system experience: reusable components and tokens, responsive behavior, and accessibility
- Pragmatic collaboration with React and React Native engineers, including design QA through release
- Privacy judgment for high-trust data: understands how PHI/PII constraints, consent, auditability, and safety shape both the UX and the design artifacts
- Comfortable working directly with non-technical SMEs, a Product Owner, and engineers
- English B2+, comfortable in a client-facing team; meaningful overlap with US business hours
Nice to have
- Healthcare, wellness, or other high-trust products
- Health data visualization: scores and confidence, trends, sleep and HRV, lab results
- Advisor consoles, queues, case management, or admin tooling
- Accessibility standards work (WCAG), keyboard and screen reader flows
- AI-assisted design and spec workflows for synthesis, state exploration, repetitive variants, accessibility checks, and handoff documentation
- Design tokens shared directly with a React and React Native codebase
Responsibilities
- Lead UX discovery, workflow mapping, information architecture, and experience definition together with the Product Owner and three practitioner SMEs
- Own the design system: reusable patterns, component specifications, states, responsive behavior, and design documentation across mobile and web
- Design the Member App MVP: scores and today's plan, habits, exercise, appointments, sleep and HRV, supplements, lab trends, messaging, notifications, consent, errors, and accessibility states
- Design the Operations Console and the minimum Back Office: advisor queue, member 360, intervention flows, audit and activity views, roster and admin, roles and access, configuration, and support workflows
- Use approved AI-assisted design and spec workflows for synthesis, screen and state exploration, repetitive variants, accessibility checks, and handoff documentation, while keeping human ownership of final UX decisions
- Partner continuously with mobile and web engineers on implementation feasibility, design QA, accessibility, edge and failure states, and handoff
- Keep PHI out of design artifacts and unapproved tooling
