Te Pūtake | Why we're hiring: Chorus is building a more disciplined, data-led approach to managing utility services across our national network and property portfolio. This fixed term role will help establish and deliver a national programme focused on improving utility data, strengthening supplier and contract management, reducing avoidable electricity lines charges, and supporting more efficient, sustainable operation of our sites.

Te Whiwhinga Mahi | The Opportunity

Are you ready to take ownership of utility services across a large, national infrastructure portfolio? Chorus is seeking a technically capable and commercially minded Utilities Manager for a fixed term role to manage electricity, fuel and water services, with a particular focus on electricity cost optimisation and the establishment of robust utilities governance, reporting and delivery practices.

In this role, you will ensure Chorus is paying for the right services at the right cost by improving consumption, ICP and billing data, verifying utility charges, supporting budgets and variance analysis, and maintaining clear records of decisions, assumptions and site actions. Electricity will be a key focus, including helping to identify and progress opportunities such as tariff and plan changes, fuse size optimisation, load management, smart metering, alternative generation and other lines company-specific efficiencies.

You'll work closely with Property Operations, Finance, Network Technology, Field Delivery, Sustainability, Infrastructure, suppliers and lines companies to move opportunities from analysis through to delivery. Strong stakeholder engagement, practical problem solving and disciplined programme coordination will be critical as you manage issues, support supplier discussions, clarify pricing, and ensure benefits are visible to the business.

As Chorus' utilities subject matter lead, you will help resolve metering and billing issues, manage operational relationships with utility providers, and provide regular reporting on opportunity pipeline, delivery status, risks, issues and decisions required.

Ō Wheako, ō Pūkenga | Your Experience

The ideal candidate will bring strong utilities, facilities, energy management or infrastructure experience, with the commercial and analytical capability to interpret utility data, validate charges and turn insights into practical cost, operational and sustainability outcomes. You'll be comfortable working across multiple sites, suppliers and internal teams, and able to build structure, momentum and accountability in a fixed term environment.

To succeed in this role, you'll bring:

· 5-7+ years' experience in building services, facilities management, utilities management, energy management, infrastructure operations or a related field.

· Practical experience managing electricity or wider utility services, including consumption, billing, budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis and cost control.

· The ability to interpret electricity pricing, tariff structures, network charges, ICP data or comparable commercial and technical charging methodologies.

· Strong analytical skills, with the ability to identify inefficiencies, assess opportunities and translate data into practical optimisation actions.

· Experience delivering projects or programmes across multiple sites, suppliers and operational stakeholders, including benefits tracking and regular reporting.

· Supplier and vendor management experience, including contract compliance, service performance, issue resolution and commercial conversations.

· Confidence working with infrastructure, property, network or operational data at portfolio scale, with a strong focus on data integrity and clear records management.

· Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to coordinate across finance, property, operations, technology, sustainability, suppliers, local authorities and lines companies.

· Sound understanding of utility infrastructure, energy management, electrical distribution, power or building services standards and practices.

· Financial acumen and comfort preparing or supporting business cases, investment decisions, monthly reporting and governance updates.

· A continuous improvement mindset, with the ability to embed lessons learned and make optimisation activity repeatable rather than one-off.

· Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical and commercial information clearly to diverse audiences.
